Job Overview:
The WASH Consultant position at UNICEF Brazil is aimed at supporting the development of the National Indigenous WASH Programme (PNSI) in collaboration with SESAI/MS. The consultant will provide technical expertise to UNICEF staff and national authorities, focusing on improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services for indigenous communities. The role involves analyzing data, developing management strategies, and drafting technical reports to enhance the effectiveness of WASH actions in indigenous areas. The consultant will work closely with the Health and WASH teams at UNICEF in Brasilia, contributing to the overall goal of promoting health and well-being among Brazil's indigenous populations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical expertise to UNICEF staff and national authorities in developing the PNSI.
  • Support the strengthening of technical capacities for analyzing data related to the PNSI.
  • Conduct data analysis to support the implementation of the PNSI in collaboration with DEAMB/SESAI/MS.
  • Develop management strategies for WASH actions in indigenous areas, considering the specific needs of these territories.
  • Prepare technical reports on UNICEF's support for DEAMB/SESAI/MS.
  • Ensure timely submission of deliverables, including reports based on data from Special Indigenous Health Districts and focus groups.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of WASH initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in civil, environmental, or sanitary engineering; biology; geography; environmental or sanitation technology; or a relevant technical field. Alternatively, four years of relevant experience in WASH within an indigenous context may substitute for formal educational qualifications. Strong communication skills and proficiency in data analysis and methodological tool development are essential. Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, and knowledge of additional languages is advantageous.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as civil, environmental, or sanitary engineering, biology, geography, or environmental sanitation is required. Candidates with extensive experience in WASH may be considered in lieu of formal education. Technical expertise in public policy planning and development is also beneficial.

Experience:
A minimum of four years of relevant experience in WASH, particularly in indigenous contexts, is required. Experience in planning and developing inter-institutional public policies is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to develop effective methodological tools.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages is considered a plus, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.
