Job Overview:
The position of Individual Consultant (IC) to Develop a Green Value Chains Guideline involves creating a comprehensive guideline that promotes sustainable practices within value chains. The consultant will be expected to analyze existing value chains, identify areas for improvement, and propose actionable strategies that align with green practices. This role is crucial for supporting UNDP's mission to foster sustainable development and environmental responsibility. The consultant will work remotely, allowing for flexibility in managing their time while ensuring that the deliverables meet the established deadlines. The expected duration of the contract is from February to June 2025, during which the consultant will engage with various stakeholders to gather insights and feedback on the proposed guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of current value chains to identify environmental impacts and areas for improvement.
  • Develop a framework for green value chains that incorporates best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including businesses, government agencies, and civil society, to gather input and validate the proposed guidelines.
  • Prepare a comprehensive report detailing the findings, recommendations, and guidelines for implementing green value chains.
  • Present the final guidelines to UNDP and relevant stakeholders, ensuring clarity and understanding of the proposed strategies.
  • Provide ongoing support and consultation during the implementation phase, if required.
  • Ensure that all deliverables are submitted on time and meet the quality standards set by UNDP.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Proven experience in developing guidelines or frameworks related to sustainable practices, particularly in value chains.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex systems and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with environmental policies and sustainable development practices is essential.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a minimum of a Master's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Business Administration, or a related field. A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline would be an advantage, particularly for those with a focus on sustainability and environmental management.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in sustainability, environmental management, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is highly desirable, as is a track record of successfully developing and implementing sustainability initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages such as Russian and Spanish is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders and enhance the consultant's ability to engage in diverse contexts.
