Job Overview:
The Radio Operator position at the United Nations House in Diamniadio, Senegal, is a unique opportunity to join a diverse and dynamic organization. The Radio Operator will be responsible for receiving and transmitting security messages and information on behalf of the UN Security Operations Center (SOC), ensuring the safety and security of UN personnel and operations. This position offers the chance to acquire new skills and advance expertise in security while contributing to peace, human rights, and the achievement of sustainable development goals. The Radio Operator will work under the supervision of the Field Security Coordination Officer (FSCO) and the Radio Technician, playing a crucial role in maintaining effective communication within the UN system in Senegal.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Radio Operator will perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: providing daily communication support for security management; receiving and transmitting security messages and information via HF, UHF, and VHF radios; monitoring field missions according to UN operational procedures; recording and distributing incoming and outgoing messages in a timely manner; designing and printing identification badges for UN personnel; escalating security incident notifications through appropriate channels; facilitating immediate support for UN personnel involved in security incidents; conducting regular radio checks to ensure equipment functionality; monitoring the use of the Security Communication System (SCS) and ensuring compliance with established SOPs; guiding UN personnel on the proper use of the SCS; maintaining a confidential database of ID cards for UN personnel; and documenting actions and communications related to security incidents. The Radio Operator may also be assigned additional tasks as necessary for the organization's effective functioning.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a secondary school diploma. A university degree in political science, military studies, security management, communications, or a related field is desirable but not mandatory. The position requires three years of experience in database systems and standard telecommunications equipment. Previous experience as a security radio operator with the UN or an international NGO is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) is required, along with knowledge of data formats and exchange procedures. Familiarity with SQL database querying systems is an advantage. Strong writing skills for developing explanatory notes/manuals are considered a plus.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a secondary school diploma. However, candidates with a university degree in relevant fields such as political science, military studies, security management, or communications will be given preference. While a degree is not mandatory, it is beneficial for understanding the complexities of the role and the environment in which the UN operates.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in establishing database systems and handling standard telecommunications equipment. Experience as a radio operator in a security context, particularly within the UN system or an international NGO, is highly desirable. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications is essential, and knowledge of SQL database systems will be advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to manage communications effectively and respond to security incidents with urgency and professionalism.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. Knowledge of the national language is also required. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international colleagues and stakeholders.
