Job Overview: The Operations Officer in the Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory (SIA) team will play a crucial role in delivering sustainability-related services to clients in the mining, energy, and transport sectors. The position is based in Dakar, Senegal, and the officer will report to the SIA Africa Lead. The primary focus will be on client engagement and business development, where the officer will identify new business opportunities and design innovative solutions to address sustainability challenges faced by clients. The role also involves portfolio management, where the officer will oversee the delivery of client projects, ensuring compliance with timelines and budgets. Additionally, the officer will contribute to knowledge creation and dissemination, sharing lessons learned and best practices related to sustainability in infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sustainability, particularly in the mining industry, and will be expected to engage with various stakeholders to foster collaboration and drive impactful solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Operations Officer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Client engagement and business development: Supporting the regional team in identifying new business opportunities, conducting risk assessments, designing innovative solutions, and preparing project proposals.
Portfolio management: Leading the preparation of project concept notes, work plans, budgets, and reports, while providing sustainability expertise to clients.
Project delivery: Ensuring compliance with project timelines and budgets, managing service providers, and conducting field missions to assess project quality.
Stakeholder engagement: Building relationships with clients, government officials, and civil society groups, and developing strategies for community engagement.
Knowledge creation: Developing knowledge materials, sharing expertise, and participating in industry events to enhance collaboration and learning on sustainability topics.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as business, finance, social sciences, or sustainable development. They should have a minimum of eight years of relevant experience in sustainability, particularly in the mining sector. A strong understanding of ESG reporting and sustainability indicators is essential, along with a proven track record in managing complex operations and stakeholder relationships. Excellent communication skills in both English and French are required, as well as strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
Educational Background: The position requires a master’s degree in a relevant field, which may include business administration, economics, sustainable development, or engineering. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of sustainable infrastructure and the financial mechanisms that support it.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least eight years of experience in the mining industry, specifically in sustainability and sustainable finance. This experience should include a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in developing resilient infrastructure and the ability to manage complex projects effectively.
Languages: Proficiency in English and French is mandatory for this position, as the candidate will need to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders in both languages. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
