Job Overview:
The Policy Officer position is integral to the Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division at FAO, specifically within the framework of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. The role involves providing analytical and operational support for results-based policy assistance and governance work. The Policy Officer will curate and implement a Policy Basket of instruments and programs aimed at eliminating poverty, hunger, and malnutrition worldwide. This position requires a strong focus on collecting and analyzing relevant data, supporting program delivery, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance food security and nutrition efforts. The officer will also engage in multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to the development of training materials and workshops, ensuring effective communication and knowledge sharing among partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Policy Officer will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including:
  • Collecting and analyzing technical, social, economic, environmental, and institutional data to support program projects and services related to policy and governance.
  • Providing technical input for plans and reports, editing and revising technical documents.
  • Participating in the development of improved work methods, tools, and systems.
  • Updating databases and web pages to ensure current information is available.
  • Collaborating in the development of training tools and materials and organizing workshops and seminars.
  • Supporting the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations, and conferences, including the development of required materials.
  • Contributing to the curation and maintenance of the reference basket of policy instruments and programs of the Global Alliance.
  • Conducting policy analysis and disseminating information on effective policy instruments.
  • Tracking results from global, regional, and country-level partnerships to promote the Global Alliance's achievements. 1
  • Supporting governments in formulating and implementing effective policies and investment plans for food security and nutrition. 1
  • Engaging in inter-agency collaboration within the UN framework regarding the Global Alliance.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in political sciences, social sciences, economics, sociology, social protection, food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of three years of relevant experience in policy analysis and assistance work, particularly in areas related to social protection, poverty eradication, and food and nutrition security. Proficiency in English (level C) and intermediate knowledge of another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in fields such as political sciences, social sciences, economics, sociology, social protection, food security, nutrition, or sustainable agriculture. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of policy analysis and the socio-economic factors influencing food security and poverty reduction.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least three years of relevant experience in policy analysis and policy assistance work. This experience should relate to social protection, poverty eradication, food and nutrition security, and the development, monitoring, and evaluation of policies and programs. Languages:
The mandatory language requirement for this position is a working knowledge of English at proficiency level C.
