Job Overview: The Communications Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the UNFPA Brazil office by contributing to the development and implementation of communication strategies that enhance the organization's visibility and effectiveness. This position involves working closely with both program and technical teams to strengthen UNFPA Brazil's brand and to coordinate the creation of content and campaigns across various media platforms, including online and offline channels. The Communications Assistant will be responsible for generating engagement among diverse stakeholders and documenting the organization's activities. This role also includes administrative responsibilities related to budgeting and monitoring service provider deliveries, ensuring that communication efforts align with UNFPA's mission and objectives. The successful candidate will help position UNFPA Brazil as a leading agency in population, sexual and reproductive health, and youth rights, engaging with public policy makers and opinion leaders to promote these critical issues.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: assisting in the development and implementation of the UNFPA Country Office's communication and advocacy strategy; drafting communications content for both internal and external use, such as key messages, press releases, and social media posts; responding to media and stakeholder inquiries; supporting the design and layout of UNFPA's audiovisual products; conducting media monitoring and reporting; assisting with event organization; managing databases of internal and external stakeholders; preparing and executing the communications budget; providing administrative and logistical support; contributing to knowledge management by synthesizing and documenting findings; supporting the development and delivery of advocacy and communication materials; monitoring and validating communication products; and assisting in the preparation of travel requests and authorizations. The role requires collaboration with various teams and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and advocacy efforts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in communications or a related field is required. The ideal candidate should have proven abilities to manage work routines with minimal supervision, experience in press relations and institutional communications, and proficiency in office applications as well as communications and content production tools. Desired skills include experience with Content Management Systems, dealing with mass media, and basic photography and editing skills. Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tools and strategies is also advantageous.
Educational Background: The position requires completion of secondary school, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to Social Communication, Journalism, or a related field. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of communication within the context of UNFPA's mission and objectives.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in communications or a related area. This experience should include work in press relations, institutional communications, or communications agencies, demonstrating the ability to manage communication processes effectively and efficiently. Familiarity with the United Nations system and previous work experience with UN agencies will be considered an asset.
Languages: The position requires working knowledge (oral and written) in Portuguese and English, as well as working knowledge of Spanish. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with diverse stakeholders and for producing high-quality communication materials.
