The UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (UNEP-CCC), established in early 2022, operates under the guidance of UN Environment (UNEP) and is supported by UNOPS. It aims to preserve and build upon a 30-year partnership between UNEP, DTU, and the MFA, focusing on energy, climate, and sustainable development. UNEP-CCC assists developing countries in transitioning to low-carbon development paths and integrates climate resilience into national development, contributing to the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals.
Job Overview: The Mitigation and Transparency Officer will be a key member of the Mitigation Analysis and Data Management Section (MA&DM) at UNEP-CCC. This role involves implementing projects related to the Enhanced Transparency Framework, particularly the Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT) and its Global Support Programme (CBIT-GSP). The successful candidate will engage in science-based analysis of mitigation policies and actions, assess climate transparency systems, and contribute to the development of knowledge products. The officer will also support project management, partnership development, and fundraising efforts, while enhancing the visibility of the section's work in international forums. This position requires a proactive approach to developing and implementing strategies for climate transparency and accountability, ensuring effective coordination across various projects and activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Mitigation and Transparency Officer will be responsible for a range of duties, including:
Conducting science-based analyses on mitigation policies and actions, focusing on national climate transparency systems.
Contributing technical inputs to the MA&DM Section's strategic discussions and initiatives.
Supporting the establishment of GHG emissions scenarios in the context of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs).
Designing and implementing Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) frameworks for mitigation under UNEP-CCC projects.
Developing knowledge products related to MRV frameworks and ensuring coordination among various projects.
Organizing and delivering workshops, training sessions, and webinars related to climate transparency.
Maintaining an online knowledge-sharing platform, updating content on project progress and results to facilitate information sharing.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master's degree in Engineering, Economics, or a related field, with a thesis focused on climate change mitigation. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree with two additional years of professional experience will be accepted in lieu of a master's degree. A PhD in a relevant field is considered an asset. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in climate change mitigation, particularly in climate transparency, and experience with international organizations is advantageous. Familiarity with emerging markets and developing countries, as well as experience in energy-related areas, is also beneficial.

Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with strong speaking and writing skills. Proficiency in Spanish and/or French is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage in diverse international contexts.
Additional Notes: The contract type is an International ICA, specifically at level IICA 2, with an initial duration of 12 months, subject to renewal based on performance and funding availability.
