The intern will support the finance team with a variety of tasks that involve hands-on practical daily work and operations. This role will require collaboration with internal and external parties, including colleagues in headquarters and field offices. The intern will assist in month-end and year-end closing activities, data compilation, and consolidation, as well as support system development and process improvement initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity to learn about financial processes and contribute to the UN's mission while developing valuable skills in finance and data analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the finance team with a wide range of finance processes, engaging in daily operations and collaborating with internal and external parties.
Assist with tasks related to the Accounts Division and financial data analysis, including month-end and year-end closing activities and account reconciliation.
Compile and consolidate financial data, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of supporting documents.
Contribute to system development and process improvement initiatives, implementing and monitoring internal controls.
Help develop training materials and guidance notes for both in-person and online formats.
Draft and review various financial and analytical reports, as well as minutes from meetings.
Participate in the preparation of financial reports, presentations, and dashboards for stakeholders.
Collaborate on special projects, providing support in process improvement, data analysis, and policy development.
Deliver assigned tasks in a collaborative, timely, and efficient manner. 1
Engage in learning opportunities to expand knowledge and experience in finance, process improvements, and system developments. 1
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must be students currently enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level) with a major in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or a related field. Experience in data science, data analytics, and data visualization is considered an asset, as it enables the intern to derive actionable insights from complex datasets.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a strong educational background in finance, accounting, business administration, or related fields. This includes being enrolled in or having recently completed a graduate program or being in the final year of an undergraduate program. Specialization in finance or accounting is desirable.
Experience: No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, relevant training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that can benefit the United Nations during the internship are encouraged. Experience in data science and analytics is a plus.
Languages: A strong command of written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic is not required but is considered a desirable asset, enhancing communication capabilities within the region.
