Job Overview: The intern will work within the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) department of Solidarités International, which is responsible for providing technical support to SI's program teams in various intervention areas. The intern will assist in developing and monitoring the implementation of SI's WASH strategy, establishing technical and strategic partnerships with third-party organizations and actors in the WASH sector, and supporting the implementation of innovative pilot projects in different intervention areas. Additionally, the intern will contribute to operational research projects aimed at improving WASH interventions and represent SI at international forums and key sector events. The role also includes contributing to internal and external sector publications and supporting the recruitment, training, and development of WASH teams within SI. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain in-depth understanding of the functioning of a humanitarian NGO, its constraints, and various intervention methodologies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's responsibilities will include providing technical support to program teams, developing and following up on the implementation of the WASH strategy, establishing partnerships with other organizations, and supporting the implementation of innovative projects. The intern will also conduct document reviews on technical themes, support the capitalization of activities and tools produced by missions, assist in writing proposals for innovative projects, and help coordinate technical partners. Participation in team meetings and organization of internal or external events such as training and conferences will also be part of the role. The tasks may evolve based on ongoing projects and needs at headquarters.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should be in their final year of study in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or a master's program in life sciences, environmental science, water management, or equivalent from a French academic institution. Experience in developing countries is appreciated, including employment, research, or internships. Experience in writing capitalization documents, methodological guides, and technical sheets is also valued. Candidates should demonstrate strong writing and synthesis skills in both French and English, and have a good understanding of project cycles and quality approaches in humanitarian program implementation. Specific technical knowledge in water, sanitation, and hygiene, particularly in developing countries, is also required.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be in their final year of study in a relevant field such as environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or a master's program in life sciences, environmental science, or water management from a recognized French academic institution.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have some experience in developing countries, which could include internships, research, or employment. Experience in writing technical documents and guides is also beneficial, as is familiarity with project management cycles and methodologies in humanitarian contexts.
Languages: Fluency in both English and French is mandatory. Strong writing and synthesis skills in both languages are essential for the role. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: The internship is based at the headquarters of SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL in Clichy (92), accessible via the Mairie de Clichy metro station. The internship is mandatory and offers a stipend of €4.90 per hour, calculated based on actual hours worked. Transportation costs will be covered at 50% by SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL, and interns will receive meal vouchers worth €8.90 per day, with a 60% contribution from the organization.
