Job Overview: The Regional Security Advisor (RSA) is a critical role within Mercy Corps, responsible for ensuring that security management standards are met across regional offices in the Middle East and Europe. The RSA will travel at least 40% of the time to various regional offices, integrating security management into operational planning, staff onboarding, and training. The role requires regular communication with Security Focal Points and country teams to support their development and ensure that security plans are current and effective. The RSA will also provide on-call support for security assessments, audits, and crisis management, maintaining leadership-level communication with country and program management to uphold global security standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The RSA's duties include monitoring the security landscape in the region, conducting annual security audits, providing technical support to country security teams, and assisting Country Directors in understanding regional risks. The RSA will also oversee travel security and access across the MENA/Europe region, ensuring compliance with security protocols. Responsibilities extend to coaching local teams, orienting new staff, and supporting training initiatives. The RSA will contribute to organizational learning and accountability efforts, ensuring that all programs adhere to Mercy Corps' core principles and values.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, with a Master's degree or equivalent experience preferred. A minimum of 5-10 years of security experience is required, including 3-5 years in safety and security within a humanitarian or development NGO. Formal security qualifications or advanced training in security management are advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of complex emergencies and possess excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, and reporting skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience in the Middle East region are preferred.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, with a Master's degree or equivalent experience being highly desirable. Candidates should have formal training in security management or related fields to enhance their qualifications for the role.
Experience: The position requires 5-10 years of total security experience, with at least 3-5 years specifically in safety and security roles within humanitarian or development organizations. Experience in security management in conflict settings is particularly valued, along with a demonstrated ability to navigate complex emergencies and security concerns.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Arabic is strongly preferred. Proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial but is not required.
