Job Overview:
The position of Instructional Designer at the WHO Academy involves creating and implementing effective learning experiences tailored to the needs of health policy practitioners, health workers, and the WHO workforce. The role requires conducting assessments to identify learning needs, mapping competency-based curricula, and designing engaging educational materials that leverage technology. The Instructional Designer will work closely with subject matter experts and educators to ensure the accuracy and relevance of content, while also developing assessments to measure learning outcomes. The Academy aims to launch in Autumn 2024, focusing on personalized and multilingual learning solutions that meet priority health needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct assessments to identify learning needs and understand the context of the target audience.
  • Map a competency-based curriculum structure with topics, objectives, activities, assessments, and content resources.
  • Define clear and measurable learning outcomes in consultation with Technical Units.
  • Design effective instructional strategies for various learning styles.
  • Develop engaging educational materials using technology and instructional tools.
  • Ensure content accessibility and inclusivity.
  • Emphasize technology-enhanced learning solutions, including AI and VR.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy.
  • Develop assessments to measure knowledge and skill levels. 1
  • Oversee project timelines and resources, ensuring integrity in learning solution design. 1
  • Report on project status and consult with the Learning Manager for timely course completion. 1
  • Review and revise course materials based on feedback and analytics. 1
  • Stay updated on trends and best practices in instructional design.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in educational sciences, adult learning, learning technologies, instructional design, or related field.
  • Desirable: Master's degree in a related field and additional certification in e-learning development or instructional design.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in instructional/learning design.
  • Understanding of major e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Adapt Learning, Storyline).
  • Experience in instructional design within the health sector is desirable.
  • Project management experience is a plus.

Educational Background:
Essential: A university degree in educational sciences, adult learning, learning technologies, instructional design, information science, or a related field. Desirable: A master's level education in any of the aforementioned fields, along with additional certification in e-learning development or instructional design.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in instructional or learning design is essential. Experience in learning production and a comprehensive understanding of e-learning authoring tools is required. Desirable experience includes working in the health sector and project management, particularly within UN organizations.

Languages:
Essential: Expert knowledge of English. Desirable: Expert knowledge of another UN language is preferred.

Additional Notes:
The position offers a competitive salary starting at USD 64,121, with additional benefits including 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependents, home leave, and an education grant for children.
