In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment: > Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) > International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW) > Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI) > United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) The main roles of UN Women are: > To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms. > To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society. > To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

Job Overview:
The Project Officer position at UN Women is primarily responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) portfolio, particularly focusing on the care economy thematic area. The role involves working closely with the WEE team and other thematic teams within the Morocco Country Office to ensure the successful implementation of planned initiatives. The Project Officer will contribute to the technical development of program strategies, provide support for the management of the care economy program, and assist in monitoring and reporting on program activities. This position requires a proactive approach to building partnerships and mobilizing resources, as well as contributing to advocacy and knowledge-building efforts related to the care economy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Contribute technically to the development of program strategies around the care economy by providing inputs to the design and formulation of program/project proposals and initiatives.
  • Provide technical support to the implementation and management of the care economy program, including inputs to the annual workplan and budget, coordinating and monitoring activities, and reviewing financial and narrative reports from implementing partners.
  • Offer technical assistance and capacity development support to project/program partners, identifying opportunities for capacity building and facilitating training as needed.
  • Monitor progress on program activities, results, and indicators, and provide inputs to quarterly and donor reports.
  • Contribute to building partnerships and resource mobilization strategies by analyzing information and maintaining databases.
  • Provide technical inputs to inter-agency coordination on care economy initiatives to ensure coherence with other partners.
  • Support advocacy, knowledge building, and communication efforts by coordinating events, developing knowledge management products, and providing technical inputs to background documents and presentations.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Political Science, Development, Public Administration, or Gender. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A project/programme management certification is considered an added advantage.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, Political Science, Development, Public Administration, or Gender. Alternatively, a first-level university degree along with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A project/programme management certification would enhance a candidate's qualifications.

Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of progressively responsible work experience in areas related to the care economy, gender equality, and women's empowerment. Candidates should have experience in working on women economic empowerment projects/programs, as well as in developing, implementing, and coordinating development programs. Proficiency in using computers and office software packages, including MS Word and Excel, is essential, along with experience in handling web-based management systems. Familiarity with a modern web-based ERP System, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable, as is experience in women's entrepreneurship.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French is mandatory for this position, while fluency in Arabic is considered desirable. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the organization and with partners.
