The Department of Safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (DSS) is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the security management system to enable the safest and most efficient and effective conduct of the programs and activities of the United Nations system. This position is located in the Security and Safety Section, Bangkok, in the Department of Safety and Security. The incumbent is required to perform security functions and coordination for the UN ESCAP Seismic Mitigation Project and reports to the Deputy Chief of Security and Safety Section or supervising officer.
ResponsibilitiesUnder the direct supervision of the Deputy Chief of Security and Safety Section, and overall supervision of the Chief of Security and Safety Section, the incumbent is required to perform the following functions: •Organizes and manages security activities and operations supporting the construction phase of ESCAP Seismic Mitigation Project (SMP). •Consults with and advises the Deputy Chief on all security matters and related activities for the SMP. •Coordinates with the SMP team on security and safety measures, coordinates with internal and external parties, including contractors and contracted security personnel, ensuring that access control, security screening and other measures are consistent with UNDSS physical security standards. •Participates in line-ups of officers to ensure that they are knowledgeable of the daily SMP security requirements. •Coordinates assignments of officers to SMP support areas and maintains contact with supervisory personnel and officers. •Directly supervises assigned personnel. •Ensures that all posts are properly and effectively staffed. •Ensures the proper maintenance of all relevant equipment and records. •Prepares and reviews incident reports related to SMP; guarantees that all incidents and complaints reported are effectively addressed. •Reviews all SMP meeting and construction schedules to determine staffing requirements. Recommends inter-unit redeployments to resolve temporary personnel shortages. •Assumes command of emergency or heightened security situations until properly relieved. •Replaces Security Inspectors as required. •Performs all other related duties as required.

EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional security or military training is required.
Work ExperienceA minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in all areas of the security operation within the UN Security Service, including investigation, physical security, personal protection, strategic and operational planning, fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical and hazardous material response, video imaging badge systems and methods of instruction or related area is required. Experience in managing and implementing physical security related projects is desirable. Experience in security risk management and security operations in the United Nations Security Management System is desirable.
LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
