Job Overview:
The Vice President, Operations position at MIGA is a senior leadership role responsible for advancing MIGA's brand within the World Bank Group and among financial institutions, investors, and development partners. The role involves leading the Operations team to originate impactful programs and projects while mobilizing private finance for development in EMDEs. The incoming VP Operations will play a pivotal role in navigating the changing landscape of development finance, which is increasingly leveraging blended finance from both public and private sectors. This position requires a dynamic leader with a proven track record in business development, strong leadership skills, impeccable ethics, and project finance expertise. The VP Operations will engage with various stakeholders, including public sector entities, private investors, and other actors in the global development community, to promote MIGA's strategic priorities and drive innovation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Vice President, Operations will provide strategic and operational leadership to a globally distributed Operations team of approximately 120 staff and managers. Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing operational oversight for the execution of MIGA’s Strategic Business Plan, translating institutional priorities into a clear growth agenda and measurable results.
  • Leading the Guarantee Platform to catalyze private capital mobilization, contributing to economic growth and job creation.
  • Strengthening operational partnerships with the World Bank Group to expand origination opportunities and enhance integrated guarantee solutions.
  • Driving the growth of MIGA through proactive engagement with clients, financial institutions, and development partners.
  • Ensuring disciplined portfolio management and continuous improvement in execution and risk-informed decision-making.
  • Building and inspiring a high-performing Operations team by coaching and mentoring staff, fostering a positive culture, and championing innovation and collaboration.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a degree in economics, finance, political science, or related fields, along with a minimum of 15 years of progressive relevant experience in leading and managing teams in public and/or private sectors and development-oriented institutions. A recognized track record in business development, thought leadership, and innovation is essential, as well as familiarity with investment analysis and insurance portfolio management. Candidates should demonstrate credibility across public and private sectors, with proven effectiveness in influencing diverse stakeholders and navigating complex global organizations. Strong people leadership skills, the ability to operate effectively in matrixed organizations, and outstanding analytical and strategic thinking skills are also required.

Educational Background:
A degree in economics, finance, political science, or related areas is required for this position. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their understanding of public and private finance, capital market development, and risk insurance, which are critical for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 15 years of progressive relevant experience in leading and managing teams within public and/or private sectors and development-oriented institutions. Candidates should have experience covering areas such as public and private finance, capital market development, risk insurance, or related complex commercial transactions. A recognized track record in business development and innovation is also essential.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English. While no additional languages are specified as preferred, proficiency in other languages may be beneficial in engaging with diverse stakeholders across different regions.
