Job Overview: The Manager, Sustainability, Industries position at MIGA involves providing strategic leadership and managerial oversight for environmental and social (E&S) work related to projects in the INFRA and MAS sectors. The role is crucial in ensuring compliance with MIGA's sustainability framework and contributing to policy development, innovation, and knowledge management. The successful candidate will lead a team of E&S specialists, manage project execution risks, and oversee the monitoring of E&S aspects of active WBG guarantees. Duties and Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the Manager, Sustainability, Industries include:
Management of Talent and Culture: Leading a team of E&S specialists, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment, managing recruitment, defining work programs, and providing feedback for team development.
Management of Project Execution Risks: Leading strategic transactions in the Industries sector, ensuring high-quality application of MIGA's Sustainability Framework, and advising on E&S due diligence processes.
Managing Portfolio and Complaints: Monitoring E&S aspects of the WBG guarantees portfolio, providing guidance on E&S performance, and leading MIGA's response to complaints.
Policy and Knowledge Management: Developing MIGA's environmental and social policies, promoting knowledge sharing, and facilitating peer learning among stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainable Development, or a related field. A minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible international experience in environmental and social sustainability is required, along with extensive experience in developing and implementing environmental management systems and compliance programs. Proven expertise in managing complex projects and addressing sustainability issues in developing countries is essential. Familiarity with IFC/MIGA Performance Standards and experience in resettlement, livelihoods restoration, and gender-related risks are also important qualifications.
Educational Background: An advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or Sustainable Development is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of environmental and social sustainability within the context of international development.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible international experience in environmental and social sustainability. Candidates should have a strong track record of managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and addressing challenging sustainability issues, particularly in developing countries and fragile environments.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this role, while working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is preferred. This linguistic capability is essential for effective communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders across the globe.
