Job Overview:
The Driver position at FAO Kyrgyzstan is crucial for supporting the organization's mission to enhance food security and sustainable agricultural practices. The driver will be responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation services for FAO Programme teams during official missions and field activities. This role requires not only driving but also ensuring the proper maintenance of the vehicle, adherence to safety and security protocols, and logistical support for mission travel. The driver will play a key role in facilitating the smooth operation of various projects, including the GCF-funded project aimed at carbon sequestration and sustainable management of natural resources. The position demands a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance and compliance with all relevant regulations, ensuring that the driver contributes effectively to the overall objectives of the FAO in Kyrgyzstan.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities that include:
  • Providing reliable and secure driving services for the transport of authorized personnel and the delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items.
  • Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and assisting with visa and customs formalities as required.
  • Maintaining accurate daily vehicle logs and contributing to the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports to ensure cost savings.
  • Performing day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including timely minor repairs, arranging for major repairs, and ensuring regular oil changes and checks on tires and brakes.
  • Ensuring that all necessary documents and supplies are available in the vehicle, including insurance, vehicle logs, maps, first aid kits, and spare parts.
  • Taking immediate action as required by rules and regulations in case of accidents.
  • Conducting field trips to project sites, particularly to Issyk-Kul and Son-Kul lakes, as needed.
  • Assisting the office with photocopying, small procurement tasks, and document distribution.
  • Loading and unloading goods carefully and securely as required. 1
  • Coordinating logistics activities with Project Assistants and reporting on delivery progress and any issues encountered. 1
  • Assisting with customs clearance procedures as needed. 1
  • Completing all mandatory training courses required by FAO within the first week of employment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • A completed high school diploma.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • At least three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safe driving record.
  • A working knowledge of the English language at a C1 level.
  • Candidates must be nationals of the Kyrgyz Republic or residents of the country with a valid work permit. Additionally, candidates should possess FAO core competencies, including a focus on results, teamwork, effective communication, relationship building, and knowledge sharing.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a completed high school diploma. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities associated with the role and for ensuring effective communication and compliance with organizational protocols.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience as a driver, specifically within international organizations, embassies, or the UN system. This experience should demonstrate a safe driving record and familiarity with the operational protocols of such organizations, ensuring that the candidate is well-prepared for the responsibilities of the role.

Languages:
A working knowledge of the English language at a C1 level is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly local languages that could facilitate better interaction with local communities and stakeholders.
