Job Overview:
The Movement Control Assistant plays a crucial role in the provision of movement control services that support the activities of a field mission. This position involves working within the Joint Movement Control Centre (JMCC), Passenger Booking Unit, Cargo Warehouse, and various transport offices. The assistant is expected to participate in developing movement control standard operating procedures and budget proposals, as well as training activities aimed at enhancing the capacity of both international and national staff members. The role requires coordination of inbound delivery services for cargo shipments and ensuring compliance with established procedures and regulations. The assistant will report to the Movement Control Officer at the P-3 level and will be involved in various operational aspects of movement control and logistics management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Movement Control Assistant is responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: receiving customer requests for transportation of passengers and cargo, assisting in planning and scheduling movements, determining efficient transportation modes, coordinating transportation activities with various units, liaising with UN units and external organizations on customs matters, recording statistical data on movements, monitoring contracts for transportation support, supervising cargo warehouse activities, ensuring compliance with regulations for dangerous goods, maintaining electronic databases, assisting in inbound delivery coordination, and performing any other related tasks as required to support effective planning and execution of movement control operations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, certification in Dangerous Goods transportation according to IATA, ICAO, or IMO regulations is required. The position demands a strong understanding of transportation processes, regulations, and safety requirements, as well as proficiency in using electronic spreadsheets and databases. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, planning and organizing skills, and a client-oriented approach in their work.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Job-specific qualifications include certification in Dangerous Goods transportation in accordance with international regulations, which is essential for ensuring compliance and safety in the handling and transportation of hazardous materials.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in movement control, multi-modal transportation, airline operations, logistics management, or a related field. Experience with IATA and/or IMO rules for dangerous goods transportation is required, along with experience in at least two modes of transport (air, sea, road, rail). Candidates should also have experience in customs clearance and inbound coordination of shipments, with a preference for those who have worked in international operations in post-conflict environments.

Languages:
English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French or Spanish is desirable, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II for French and UN Level I for Spanish. Proficiency in these languages is important for effective communication within the UN and with external stakeholders.
