The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) was established to provide support primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces. Job Overview:
The UN Medical Officer position is crucial for providing medical support to UN staff in the field. The incumbent will undertake day-to-day clinical duties, occupational health responsibilities, and health education initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Medical Officer and/or Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Officer will coordinate medical evacuations and ensure the smooth operation of medical services. This role requires a proactive approach to managing medical emergencies and liaising with various stakeholders, including local authorities and medical facilities. The position demands a high level of professionalism and the ability to work under pressure, ensuring that all medical operations are conducted efficiently and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Officer will be responsible for coordinating medical evacuations, acting as the focal point for all medevac requests, and providing continuous medico-administrative support for operations. This includes facilitating communication between patients, treating physicians, and receiving hospitals. The incumbent will develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for medical evacuations, conduct technical assessments of health facilities, and support clinical duties such as emergency responses and staff referrals. Additionally, the Medical Officer will manage day-to-day medical support operations, ensure the availability of medical supplies, and implement training programs to enhance medical capabilities within the mission. Other responsibilities include liaising with UN-Military Medical Units and participating in drafting business continuity and crisis preparedness plans.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree that qualifies for registration as a licensed medical practitioner (MD, MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent). Current unrestricted registration with the medical licensing authority of a UN Member State is required, along with a valid license to practice medicine. Training in emergency medicine and trauma care is desirable. The role requires a strong understanding of medical protocols and the ability to operate within the framework of UN policies and procedures.

Educational Background:
A first-level university degree in medicine is mandatory for this position. This degree must qualify the candidate for registration as a licensed medical practitioner. Additional qualifications in emergency medicine or trauma care will be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's suitability for the role.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible clinical experience in medicine is required. Experience in conducting and coordinating medical evacuations in an international context is desirable, as is experience in UN or other international field operations. Familiarity with electronic medical record systems and data analysis is also beneficial, as it contributes to the efficient management of medical operations and patient care.

Languages:
The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. For this position, proficiency in English and Spanish is required, with French being desirable. Candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in these languages, as per the UN Language Framework.
