Job Overview: The UN Information Systems Assistant position is a temporary role located in Santo Domingo, within the Field Technology Section of UNSOH. The incumbent will report to the Chief of Section, P5, or a designated officer. The primary responsibilities include providing ICT service desk support, systems administration, network and telecommunications support, ICT asset management, and ensuring compliance with ICT security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security-policies" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security policies. The role requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving ICT-related issues, as well as maintaining documentation and reporting on service requests and incidents. The assistant will also coordinate with external service providers and participate in ICT projects and system rollouts, ensuring that all ICT services meet the needs of mission personnel effectively and efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: serving as the primary point of contact for ICT incidents and service requests; troubleshooting hardware and software issues; performing systems administration tasks such as account management and software installations; supporting network infrastructure and telecommunications services; maintaining accurate inventories of ICT assets; monitoring ICT infrastructure for operational status; preparing technical documentation and reports; coordinating with vendors for repairs and maintenance; and participating in ICT projects and providing user training. The role requires a strong commitment to customer service and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and clients.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A first-level university degree or higher can reduce the minimum required experience from five years to three years. Industry certifications such as Microsoft, Cisco (CCNA), CompTIA A+, Network+, or ITIL Foundation are desirable. Supplemental training or certification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Network Administration, or Telecommunications is also preferred. Candidates should demonstrate good technical skills and the ability to provide user support effectively.
Educational Background: A high school diploma is required, and candidates with a first-level university degree or higher will have a reduced experience requirement. Any relevant industry certifications or degrees in the ICT field are considered advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in information technology, information systems, network administration, telecommunications, or related ICT support services is required. Experience providing enterprise-level ICT support within the United Nations Common System or similar organizations is desirable. Familiarity with enterprise service management platforms and ICT asset management systems is also beneficial, as is experience in supporting network infrastructure and endpoint security solutions.
Languages: English and Spanish are required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level III in both reading and writing. French is considered desirable, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in these languages to fulfill the requirements of the role.
