Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position of Stagiaire chargé(e) de budget is situated within the Budget & Programming Unit (BPU) of WFP in Nouakchott, Mauritania. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Budget and Programming Officer (BPO) and will be responsible for providing analytical and operational support to budget monitoring activities, resource management, data analysis, and the preparation of internal coordination mechanisms. This internship aims to enhance the capacity of the BPU while offering a structured experience in budget management and resource allocation within a humanitarian context. The intern will gain insights into the operational priorities of the WFP and how they translate into actionable budgets, contributing to effective resource programming and management.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a variety of responsibilities, including:
Budget Monitoring and Data Management: Collecting, consolidating, cleaning, and structuring budget and resource data from tracking files and, where permitted, from WFP's institutional systems. Updating tracking tools related to contributions, available resources, unprogrammed balances, fund utilization, expenditures, and funding needs. Performing first-level consistency checks, documenting discrepancies, and submitting them to the BPO for review. Preparing tables, graphs, and descriptive summaries that highlight trends, discrepancies, deadlines, and points requiring special attention.
Pipeline, RMC, and Internal Coordination: Supporting the collection and consolidation of contributions from relevant units for monthly pipeline exercises and needs projections. Assisting in the preparation of RMC materials under the supervision of the BPO/BPA, including situation tables, presentations, and action item lists. Maintaining calendars, timelines, and tracking tools for programming actions, fund utilization, and contribution closures. Preparing draft minutes and ensuring structured filing of working documents and supporting evidence.
Analysis, Documentation, and Tool Improvement: Conducting ad-hoc descriptive analyses on budget execution, resource availability, funding deficits, and contribution trends. Contributing to the enhancement of Excel models, dashboards, quality controls, and simple procedures used by the BPU. Documenting sources, assumptions, definitions, and update steps to ensure traceability and continuity of tools. Executing any other related tasks that align with the learning objectives of the internship and the responsibilities of an intern.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be students or recent graduates who meet one of the following profiles:
Enrolled in a bachelor's degree program and have completed at least two years of study; or
Enrolled in a master's program; or
Recently graduated within the last six months prior to application. Additionally, candidates must have completed coursework within the last twelve months and have pursued training in finance, economics, management, business administration, statistics, data analysis, or a related field. Proficiency in French, both spoken and written, is mandatory, while proficiency in English is considered an asset. Candidates must be able to work in Nouakchott for the entire duration of the internship and may be required to travel as necessary and authorized. Candidates must not have a direct family relationship with any WFP employee.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes being enrolled in or having completed a degree in finance, economics, management, business administration, statistics, data analysis, or a related field. Candidates should have completed at least two years of study in a bachelor's program or be enrolled in a master's program. Recent graduates who have completed their studies within the last six months are also eligible to apply. Experience: The level of experience required for this position is relatively low, as it is primarily aimed at students or recent graduates. A work plan will be established at the start of the internship, with regular follow-up points and an evaluation at the end of the internship. Access to data and systems will be limited to the needs of the internship and subject to WFP's security rules and procedures. The intern is expected to maintain confidentiality, data protection, information integrity, and adhere to the applicable conduct rules of WFP. The internship is unpaid, and candidates must be available to work full-time during the internship period.
