Job Overview:

Under the direct supervision of the Security Officer, the Security Associate will be responsible for implementing and assessing security measures, maintaining security equipment, and providing updates and recommendations to facilitate informed decision-making. The role involves developing and updating emergency and contingency planning documents to enhance crisis preparedness. As WFP expands its access to hard-to-reach areas, the Security Associate will play a vital role in maintaining communication with stakeholders and partners, particularly local authorities, to ensure operational continuity during emergencies. The position requires a proactive approach to security management, including knowledge of alternative routes in rural areas to safeguard staff movements during crises.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Security Associate will perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: reviewing security threats and risks, compiling accurate reports on trends that could impact WFP operations, and ensuring that information is collated and sent to senior security staff. The role also involves liaising with local administration, security, and law enforcement authorities to facilitate safe program delivery, planning and coordinating staff activities during field missions, and conducting security assessments. The Security Associate will analyze security assessment reports and present recommendations for risk mitigation, assist in advising the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director on security risk management, support the implementation of risk management measures, and ensure compliance with Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS). Additionally, the Security Associate will monitor access control procedures, maintain and develop emergency planning documentation, deliver security training to staff, and supervise and provide on-the-job training to other staff members.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a good theoretical understanding of security management concepts and principles, including knowledge of best practices and techniques in the security field. Specialized knowledge of practical methods and systems used in security is essential, typically gained through technical training and work experience. The ideal candidate should have experience in security operations, including security administration, risk assessment, and coordination with local authorities. Training and practical experience in fire safety, emergency response, and evacuation procedures are also required. Strong communication skills are necessary for maintaining correspondence with internal staff and external authorities regarding security advisories and incidents.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education, along with a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of security management and the operational environment in which WFP operates.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least six years of progressively responsible work experience in the security field, which may include roles such as military or police officer, security analyst, or other relevant security positions. Prior experience in emergency contexts is required to ensure that the candidate can effectively manage security risks in challenging environments.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of the French language is considered an added advantage, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders and partners.
