Job Overview:

The Josour initiative, launched in 2022, focuses on creating employment opportunities for young people, enhancing their skills, and providing training to improve their employability. The intern will play a crucial role in assisting the Josour team by engaging with partners and youth, managing platform content, and contributing to research activities. This position offers a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic team dedicated to empowering youth and addressing the pressing issue of inequality in the Arab region. The intern will gain valuable experience in platform management, partner engagement, and youth support, while also contributing to the broader goals of the initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the Josour initiative's objectives. Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting in platform management by monitoring partners’ inputs and announcements, including job postings, training opportunities, and events.
• Engaging with partners to help them update and post relevant opportunities on the platform.
• Supporting youth engagement by assisting opportunity seekers in navigating the platform and providing guidance throughout their journey.
• Responding to inquiries from opportunity seekers under the guidance of the team.
• Contributing to technical coordination by reviewing the platform’s functionality and user experience, and suggesting enhancements.
• Assisting in research activities related to youth empowerment and the scope of the Josour initiative.
• Performing additional tasks as requested to further the initiative’s objectives.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet specific criteria: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree as defined above. Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. Furthermore, candidates should have the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in a graduate program or being in the final year of an undergraduate program. Candidates who have recently graduated with a university degree are also eligible to apply. This ensures that the intern has a solid academic foundation and is equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the Josour initiative.

Experience:

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position, as these are the working languages of ESCWA. Knowledge of French is considered desirable but not mandatory. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas: speaking, reading, writing, and understanding, while knowledge is defined as a rating of 'confident' in two of the four areas.

Interns at the United Nations are not financially remunerated, and all costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Lebanon may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
