Job Overview:
The NATO Staff Officer for Strategic Engagement/Coordination will play a crucial role in supporting the Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate (SPP) at NATO's Allied Command Transformation (ACT). This position involves formulating policies and strategies that enhance NATO's military capabilities and doctrines. The officer will be responsible for executing engagement and coordination activities that align with the objectives set by the Deputy Chief of Staff for SPP. The role requires a proactive approach to organizing strategic conferences and seminars, engaging with various defense organizations, and ensuring that the Commander’s objectives are effectively communicated across all strategic events. The incumbent will also contribute to the development of high-quality staff products and maintain strategic engagement coherence across NATO communications.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the NATO Staff Officer include: organizing strategic level conferences, seminars, and symposia to facilitate discussions among top leaders on defense issues; producing and disseminating after-action reports; managing budgets and contracts related to these events; engaging with defense organizations and academic institutions to gather insights and foster collaboration; enabling ACT’s role as a military think tank by organizing workshops and reports; ensuring that the Commander’s objectives are reflected in all strategic initiatives; supporting the development and maintenance of SIE-owned websites; producing detailed staff products such as Point Papers and PowerPoint presentations; reviewing and updating existing MOUs/LOAs and agreements with NATO and non-NATO entities; and providing advice and guidance on strategic engagement matters that impact SACT’s core objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree and have at least 2 years of function-related experience, or have completed higher secondary education with advanced vocational training leading to a professional qualification and 4 years of post-related experience. Additionally, candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in facilitating high-level seminars, workshops, or symposia, and at least 2 years of experience contributing to high-level policy papers or strategies. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced international environment are essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field. Candidates with higher secondary education and advanced vocational training leading to a professional qualification will also be considered, provided they meet the experience requirements. The emphasis is on qualifications that support strategic engagement and policy development within a military or defense context.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of function-related experience for candidates with a university degree, or 4 years for those with higher secondary education and vocational training. Candidates should have substantial experience in facilitating high-level discussions and contributing to policy development, demonstrating a strong understanding of strategic military operations and engagement.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with a required proficiency level of SLP 3333 (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing). Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory for this position.

Additional Notes:
The successful candidate will be required to apply for and obtain a NATO SECRET Security Clearance prior to the final confirmation of their contract and commencement of employment. The contract offered will be in accordance with NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations, with newly recruited staff receiving a three-year definite duration contract.
