Job Overview: The NATO Staff Officer - Data Science position involves delivering hands-on advanced data analytics to support Information Environment Assessment (IEA) activities. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the NATO Staff Officer - Data Science include conducting hands-on data analysis and modeling to support Information Environment assessments. This involves data exploration, preparation, statistical analysis, and the application of machine learning and deep learning techniques. The incumbent will develop and apply advanced analytical approaches to enhance IEA products, design custom data processing pipelines, create visualizations, and produce rapid prototypes to test new analytical concepts. Additionally, the role requires producing high-quality analytical outputs, including reports and briefings, and supporting the application of data and advanced analytics across ACO. The incumbent will oversee the implementation of data analytics within the IEA branch, ensuring effective application of tools and methodologies, and providing technical guidance to analysts. The role also includes maintaining awareness of emerging analytical methods and undertaking additional duties as directed by the Chain of Command.
Required Qualifications: Essential qualifications for this position include a University Degree in statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, economics, operations research, or a related discipline with a strong focus on statistical modeling and machine learning, along with 4 years of post-related experience. Alternatively, candidates with Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in a relevant discipline leading to a professional qualification or accreditation, along with 6 years of post-related experience, will also be considered. Candidates must have a minimum of 4 years of experience in data science, analytics, AI, or a related field, and experience working with large and complex data sets, including both structured and unstructured data. A strong background in statistical modeling, machine learning, and AI is required, along with experience in developing custom analytical solutions using programming languages such as Python.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a University Degree in a relevant field such as statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, economics, or operations research, with a strong emphasis on statistical modeling and machine learning. A complementary degree in political science, communications, or a relevant field is desirable. Advanced degrees such as an MSc or PhD in the aforementioned disciplines are also preferred.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of post-related experience in data science, analytics, AI, or a related field. Candidates should have experience working with large and complex data sets, including both structured and unstructured data, and should demonstrate proficiency in data transformation, integration, and analysis. Experience in developing reports and data visualizations, as well as the ability to communicate complex analytical findings clearly and compellingly, is essential.
Languages: The mandatory language for this position is English, with a proficiency level of SLP 3333 (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing). While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset.
