Job Overview:
This internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed to be in-person and full-time, requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week, although adjustments can be made based on the successful candidate's requests. The internship is expected to last between 3 to 6 months. The intern will work under the supervision of the Communications Team leader and will be involved in a variety of tasks that support the communications efforts of OSAA. These tasks include desktop publishing and design, video production and editing, social media and web content support, as well as data visualization and technical support. The intern will gain hands-on experience in creating and managing multimedia content, enhancing their skills in graphic design and digital communication while contributing to the important work of the UN in Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties, including:
  • Desktop Publishing and Design: Assisting in the layout and design of OSAA knowledge products such as factsheets, policy briefs, and papers. Supporting the creation of digital assets including flyers, visuals, and graphics. Providing technical assistance in preparing visual assets for OSAA publications.
  • Video Production and Editing: Supporting the production and editing of multimedia content for OSAA's social media accounts.
  • Social Media and Web Content Support: Assisting in preparing multimedia content for OSAA's social media platforms and website. Supporting improvements to the layout and presentation of existing content.
  • Data Visualization and Technical Support: Assisting in creating simple data visualizations for reports and presentations. Providing technical input for improving the visual quality of OSAA materials.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, applicants must have a field of study closely related to the internship they are applying for. Additionally, applicants must be a student in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or being enrolled in or having completed a Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Proof of enrollment or completion must be attached to the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for this internship. However, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship, particularly in areas related to graphic design, communications, or media production.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, is considered an advantage. The official languages of the United Nations Secretariat include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, meaning that all costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
