Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) was established to provide support primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces. The organization is tasked with delivering technical assistance to the Organization of American States (OAS). Job Overview:
The Air Operations Assistant position is crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of air transportation for both civilian and military personnel, as well as for equipment and goods. This role is situated within the Air Terminal Unit of the Aviation Section under the Office of the Chief Service Delivery. The assistant will report directly to the Chief Air Terminal Unit and is expected to manage ramp operations, enforce safety protocols, and coordinate with various stakeholders, including Ground Handling Agents and local authorities. The position may require working outside of normal hours, including weekends and holidays, depending on operational needs. The Air Operations Assistant must demonstrate professionalism, effective communication, and teamwork to achieve organizational goals and ensure the smooth operation of air transport services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Air Operations Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: carrying out ramp operations tasks, maintaining ramp discipline, enforcing safety zones around operating aircraft, assisting aircrew with dispatch at the airport, coordinating with Ground Handling Agents for aircrew facilitation, managing operational issues related to mission aircraft, checking NOTAMs and other relevant notices, supporting refueling coordination, ensuring passenger safety during boarding and disembarkation, applying ramp safety procedures, conducting visual checks of ground support equipment, maintaining accurate records of ramp operations, reporting incidents and near-misses to supervisors, and coordinating with the UNSOH Mission Air Operation Center for flight operations. The assistant will also liaise with local authorities to ensure compliance with all operational requirements.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A technical or vocational certificate in Air Transportation, aircraft flight operations, dispatch, Safety Management, or Air Operations is desirable. The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in Air Transport Operations, which can be reduced to three years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in ramp safety and aircraft ground handling practices is essential, and basic radio communication skills are desirable. Physical fitness suitable for outdoor ramp work is also preferred.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, candidates with a technical or vocational certificate in relevant fields such as Air Transportation or Safety Management will be viewed favorably. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of air operations and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Experience:
The role requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in Air Transport Operations. However, this requirement can be reduced to three years for candidates who hold a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in ramp safety and aircraft ground handling practices is mandatory, as these skills are critical for the effective execution of the duties associated with this position. Candidates should also possess basic radio communication skills and demonstrate physical fitness for outdoor work.

Languages:
For this position, proficiency in English and Spanish is required, with both languages needing to meet UN Level II standards in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. While English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, the specific requirement for this role emphasizes the need for Spanish proficiency, reflecting the operational context in which the Air Operations Assistant will be working.
