Job Overview:
The UN Resident Coordinator (RC) is the highest-ranking representative of the UN development system in the country, responsible for leading the UN country team and ensuring accountability for the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. The RC plays a crucial role in coordinating operational activities for development, fostering partnerships with government and civil society, and advocating for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Duties and Responsibilities:
The Resident Coordinator is tasked with a wide range of responsibilities, including representing the UN at high levels of government, leading the UN country team in developing and implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, coordinating system-wide support to the government, and advocating for the SDGs. The RC must ensure effective communication and collaboration among UN agencies, engage with diverse partners, and promote human rights and gender equality. Additionally, the RC is responsible for overseeing country financing instruments, managing security for UN personnel, and facilitating knowledge sharing and innovation for sustainable development. The role also involves integrating humanitarian and development efforts, particularly in conflict and post-conflict settings, and ensuring that the UN's work aligns with national development priorities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in relevant fields such as development studies, international relations, political science, or social sciences. A first-level university degree with relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 15 years of substantive experience in leadership roles at the international level, including at least five years in development, human rights, or humanitarian work at the country level. Previous experience as a Resident Coordinator is desirable, along with strong political acumen and the ability to engage with senior government officials and diplomats.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for the position include a Master's degree or equivalent in fields related to development, international relations, political science, economics, social sciences, human rights, or law. Candidates with a first-level university degree and relevant experience may also be considered. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of international development and the UN's role in promoting sustainable development.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 15 years of substantive experience in leadership roles at the international level, with a focus on development, human rights, and humanitarian work. Candidates should have experience in managing and coordinating humanitarian programs, as well as a strong understanding of regional dynamics and the ability to engage with various stakeholders. Previous experience as a Resident Coordinator or in a similar role is highly desirable, as is experience in security decision-making in complex environments.

Languages:
English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Arabic is considered a desirable language, also requiring a minimum proficiency level of UN Level III. Proficiency in French is also beneficial, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Additional Notes:
The start date for this position is set for January 2028, unless the incumbent is reassigned before that date. The duration of the assignment is typically five years, subject to change based on the hardship classification of the duty station. Eligibility for this position is limited to candidates who are members of the Resident Coordinator Pool.
