Job Overview: The Advocacy, Outreach and Resource MobilizationIntern will play a crucial role in supporting the UN Women Japan Liaison Office's communications, advocacy, and outreach strategies. The intern will assist in increasing awareness and understanding of UN Women’s work among stakeholders such as media, policymakers, private sector representatives, students, and the general public. This internship is designed to provide students with practical experience in multilateral technical cooperation and complements women’s development-oriented studies. By the end of the internship, the intern will have gained insights into UN Women’s mandate, developed skills in digital engagement, and acquired experience in drafting content for various communication platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Director of the JLO, including: supporting the office’s communications work through social media outreach and website management; assisting in building partnerships with public and private sectors to mobilize resources for UN Women; raising awareness of the Unstereotype Alliance initiatives; planning workshops focused on Women’s Empowerment Principles; producing communications materials such as flyers, posters, videos, and presentations; coordinating advocacy activities with various entities; and assisting with research and drafting speeches and presentations for the Director.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrate an understanding of gender issues. They should have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and be capable of managing multiple tasks effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is essential, and familiarity with social media and web design tools is desirable. Attention to detail and the ability to work harmoniously with individuals from diverse backgrounds are also important qualifications.
Educational Background: The position is open to students currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program, particularly those studying international relations, gender studies, communications, or related fields. The internship is designed to complement academic studies with practical experience in the field of gender equality and women's empowerment.
Experience: While prior experience is not mandatory, any relevant experience in communications, advocacy, or gender-related work will be considered an asset. The internship is particularly suited for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in a UN environment and those interested in pursuing a career in international development or gender equality.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Japanese is highly desirable. The ability to translate between English and Japanese is a significant advantage for this position.
