Job Overview: The Policy Analyst (EVAWG) will work under the supervision of the Policy Specialist, Prevention, EVAW Section, and the Policy and Programme Management Specialist. This role involves providing analytical, policy, and programmatic support to UN Women's initiatives aimed at preventing violence against women and girls, particularly through the ACT to End Violence against Women Programme. The incumbent will engage in policy analysis, research, evidence generation, knowledge management, program monitoring, and stakeholder engagement to enhance evidence-informed policy and programming on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG). The position requires a proactive approach to support the development and implementation of UN Women’s global prevention agenda, ensuring that policies and programs are grounded in rigorous evidence and best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support policy analysis and provide technical support to EVAWG prevention and ACT programme priorities by conducting policy analysis and providing technical inputs for the development and implementation of UN Women’s global prevention agenda. This includes adapting and disseminating policy frameworks and tools, contributing to the development and quality assurance of policy guidance and knowledge products, and providing analytical support to ACT Programme initiatives.
Support research, evidence generation, and knowledge management by conducting research on emerging EVAWG issues, analyzing research findings, and preparing policy briefs and analytical reports. This also involves managing knowledge-sharing platforms to enhance organizational learning.
Contribute to policy advocacy, partnerships, and stakeholder engagement by providing support for global advocacy opportunities, developing background materials for engagement with various stakeholders, and contributing to resource mobilization efforts.
Support programme monitoring, reporting, and partner engagement by contributing to programme planning and results tracking, analyzing performance data, and engaging with programme partners to document results and lessons learned. The incumbent will also perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in Law, Social Sciences, Political Science, Development, Public Administration, or Gender. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Candidates must have at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in developing knowledge products focused on Ending Violence against Women and Girls, with specific experience in the prevention of EVAWG and engaging men and boys to transform patriarchal masculinities. Experience in research and writing on issues of violence against women and gender equality is essential, as is experience supporting advocacy initiatives at the international level. Candidates should also have experience coordinating high-level advocacy events and technical briefings at the UN, as well as experience working in developing countries within the UN system.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Law, Social Sciences, Political Science, Development, Public Administration, or Gender. A first-level university degree may be accepted in combination with additional qualifying experience, demonstrating the candidate's capability to fulfill the role effectively.
Experience: The position requires at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in areas related to the development of knowledge products focused on Ending Violence against Women and Girls. Candidates should have experience in the prevention of EVAWG, including familiarity with the UN RESPECT Framework, and experience in engaging men and boys to challenge patriarchal norms. Additionally, experience in research and writing on gender equality issues, as well as supporting advocacy initiatives at the international level, is required. Experience in coordinating high-level advocacy events and technical briefings at the UN is also necessary, along with experience working in developing countries within the UN system.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of other UN languages is considered an asset. Proficiency in languages relevant to the regions where UN Women operates may also be beneficial.
Additional Notes: This position does not involve direct supervisory responsibilities. The role is full-time and may require engagement with various stakeholders, including Member States, UN entities, donors, and civil society organizations.
