The NSD-S Hub Director’s Office is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, assessing, and planning the Hub functions and activities performed by individual functional Hub Sections. The Knowledge Management & Engagement Branch focuses on identifying, directing, validating, prioritizing, coordinating, and fusing NSD-S-related information and knowledge requirements. Job Overview:
The International Affairs Analyst plays a crucial role in analyzing, integrating, and interpreting information related to the political domain across the NSD-S geographical area. This position supports the Hub's knowledge requirements as determined by the Knowledge Management section. The analyst is expected to identify and evaluate geopolitical relations, particularly concerning multilateral, regional, and bilateral agreements in Africa and the Middle East. The role involves formulating strategies aligned with NATO directives, assessing mechanisms to influence regional organizations, and identifying opportunities for NATO's cooperation with African and Middle Eastern initiatives. The analyst will also liaise with various stakeholders, including government officials and civic bodies, to develop and evaluate international cooperation projects, providing critical analysis on how regional dynamics affect foreign policy behavior.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The International Affairs Analyst is responsible for a wide range of duties, including identifying and evaluating geopolitical relations, formulating strategies aligned with NATO policies, and assessing mechanisms to influence regional organizations. The analyst will evaluate initiatives from Africa and the Middle East to identify NATO's opportunities for cooperation. Additionally, the analyst will liaise with government officials, civic bodies, and research agencies, developing international cooperation projects in governmental and non-governmental forums. The role requires monitoring and assessing geopolitical dynamics and developments in the NSD-S area, providing final products to the Senior Knowledge Management section for approval. The analyst may also be required to perform similar duties elsewhere within the organization and may need to travel for coordination purposes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a University Degree in political science, public administration, international relations, criminology, or a related discipline, along with 2 years of function-related experience. Alternatively, candidates with Higher Secondary education and advanced vocational training leading to a professional qualification may qualify with 4 years of post-related experience. Demonstrated experience in political sciences and civics, as well as intelligence activities related to transnational issues such as terrorism and organized crime, is essential. A strong professional background within regional and international organizations related to Africa and the Middle East is also required. Candidates must have a professional level of English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a University Degree in relevant fields such as political science, public administration, international relations, criminology, or related disciplines. Candidates with higher secondary education and completed advanced vocational training leading to a professional qualification are also eligible, provided they have the requisite post-related experience. A post-graduate university education or graduation from a National General Staff College or NATO Defence College is desirable.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2 years of function-related experience if they hold a University Degree, or 4 years of post-related experience if they have higher secondary education and advanced vocational training. Experience in political sciences, civics, and intelligence activities that address issues transcending national boundaries is crucial. A strong professional background within regional and international organizations, particularly those focused on Africa and the Middle East, is highly valued.

Languages:
Mandatory languages include English, with a required proficiency level of 'professional' in listening, speaking, reading, and writing (SLP 3333 based on NATO standards). Desirable qualifications include a higher proficiency level of 'expert' in listening and reading, and 'professional' in speaking and writing (SLP 4343 based on NATO standards).

Additional Notes:
The successful candidate will receive a three-year definite duration contract, which may be followed by an indefinite duration contract. The basic entry-level monthly salary for a NATO Grade G15 in Italy is Euro 5,879.80, subject to allowances based on eligibility and approximately 20% withholding for pension and medical insurance contributions. Candidates must be nationals of a NATO member country, aged between 21 and 60 at the time of appointment, and must be eligible for NATO security clearance. The position may require short-term travel assignments, and acceptance of the employment contract implies agreement to fulfill this requirement.
