Job Overview:
The Enterprise AI Engineer (Associate AI Solutions Officer) position at the World Bank involves working within the Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) department, specifically in the ITS Data Office (ITSDO). This role is pivotal in advancing the Bank's digital transformation by enabling data, AI, information, and knowledge capabilities across the institution. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining core engineering components of the Enterprise Agentic Framework and Intelligence Platform. This includes developing atomic agents, agent orchestration patterns, and ensuring interoperability across the enterprise agentic backbone. The role requires a strong focus on engineering quality, technical leadership, and collaboration with various teams to translate product roadmaps into effective technical designs. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Enterprise AI Engineer include:
  • AI Platform and Agentic Solution Engineering: Design, build, and maintain core engineering components of the Enterprise Agentic Framework and Intelligence Platform, including model gateways and enterprise agent hubs. Lead the development of atomic agents and agent orchestration patterns, ensuring interoperability across the enterprise agentic backbone. Own the engineering of agent harnesses, covering orchestration, memory management, observability, and evaluation. Establish reference architectures and reusable engineering patterns to accelerate AI adoption across business teams. Drive engineering quality across the platform's tool registry and broader tools and accelerators portfolio.
  • Center of Excellence and Enablement: Act as a technical anchor within the AI Center of Excellence, providing hands-on expertise to Line of Business teams. Develop templates and internal libraries to enhance developer productivity. Lead technical enablement through workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions. Support the platform philosophy of making the governed path the easiest path for self-service AI capabilities.
  • Responsible AI, Governance, and Standards: Ensure all AI tooling solutions align with enterprise standards for security and responsible AI practices. Partner with AI governance and data governance functions to embed guardrails and quality checks into agent design. Work closely with Enterprise Architecture and Office of Information Security teams to ensure security by design.
  • Technical Leadership and Delivery Oversight: Provide technical oversight and quality assurance to delivery partners and vendor teams. Collaborate with Product Owners to translate product roadmaps into sound technical designs. Stay current with emerging developments in agentic AI and proactively propose improvements to the platform's technical direction.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Enterprise AI Engineer position include:
  • Education: A Master's degree with 5 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Role-Specific Experience: At least 3 years of experience in AI engineering and/or machine learning at an enterprise scale.
  • Certification Requirements: SAFe or other relevant Agile certifications, along with industry-recognized certifications in AI Engineering, Platform Architecture, Cloud Technologies, or related disciplines.
  • Required Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated expertise in AI/ML Engineering, including design and optimization of scalable agentic AI systems. Experience with agent harnesses, orchestration, memory management, and observability frameworks. Advanced experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and metadata-aware retrieval patterns. Familiarity with cloud AI platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and modern data/AI architecture. Strong knowledge of reference architecture design and reusable engineering frameworks. Proven experience applying DevOps and DevSecOps principles. Strong understanding of workflow orchestration and multi-agent coordination tools. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Enterprise AI Engineer position typically includes a Master's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, or Engineering, along with substantial experience in AI engineering or machine learning. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with significant relevant experience may also be acceptable.
