Job Overview:
The Education Assistant position at UNHCR is designed to support the implementation of educational programs for refugees and displaced persons. The role involves working closely with the education team to ensure that educational needs are met and that quality education is accessible to all children in refugee settings. The Education Assistant will be responsible for coordinating educational activities, monitoring the progress of students, and providing support to teachers and educational staff. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work in a challenging environment. The Education Assistant will also engage with community members to promote the importance of education and encourage participation in educational programs. The role is crucial in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in the planning and implementation of educational programs for refugee children and youth.
• Monitor and evaluate the educational progress of students and provide feedback to teachers and educational staff.
• Coordinate with local schools and educational institutions to facilitate the integration of refugee students.
• Organize training sessions and workshops for teachers to enhance their teaching skills and methodologies.
• Engage with parents and community members to promote educational initiatives and encourage student enrollment.
• Prepare reports on educational activities and student performance for submission to the education team.
• Support the development of educational materials and resources tailored to the needs of refugee students.
• Collaborate with other UN agencies and NGOs to ensure a holistic approach to education in refugee settings.

Required Qualifications:

Educational Background:

Candidates with experience in educational program development or implementation in humanitarian settings will be given preference.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant work experience in education, preferably in a humanitarian or development context. Experience working with refugee populations or in multicultural environments is an asset. Familiarity with the challenges faced by displaced communities and a commitment to promoting inclusive education are essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in French is highly desirable. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the refugee community is an advantage and will enhance communication and engagement with students and families.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as a National UN Volunteer (NUNV) role, which means it is intended for local candidates. The position is not remote and requires the staff member to be based in N'Djamena, Chad. The contract duration is typically for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs. The role is full-time, and the selected candidate will receive a monthly stipend as compensation, along with other benefits associated with UN volunteer positions.
