Job Overview: The Project Associate will work under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission in Uzbekistan and the direct supervision of the National Project Officer on Protection of Migrants. This role involves providing administrative support to the Senior Project Assistant and contributing to the implementation of activities related to two significant projects: one focused on preventing irregular migration to Sweden and the EU, funded by the Sweden Ministry of Justice, and the other aimed at strengthening survivor-centered protection and prevention of trafficking in persons in Uzbekistan, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The Project Associate will also engage with Implementing Partners and assist in developing Community Driven Action Plans, as well as creating local alternatives to irregular migration functions. This position requires a proactive approach to project management, including monitoring and reporting on project activities, budget management, and liaising with various stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Associate will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities; retrieving, compiling, summarizing, analyzing, and presenting information/data on specific project topics; monitoring the project budget by verifying the availability of funds and updating budget-related information; acting as the focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation; drafting status reports and correspondence on project issues; responding to complex information requests and inquiries; organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions; participating in meetings and conferences to coordinate implementation activities; assisting in monitoring the work of Implementing Partners and reporting non-compliances; and providing guidance and training to new or junior staff members. The Project Associate may also be assigned other relevant duties as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, along with three years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, candidates with a High School diploma and five years of relevant professional experience will also be considered. Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs is essential, as is experience working with migrants, refugees, and other vulnerable groups. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or in a multi-cultural setting is advantageous.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or a related area from an accredited institution. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates with a High School diploma may also apply if they have the requisite professional experience.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience if they hold a Bachelor’s degree, or five years if they have a High School diploma. Experience should include liaising with governmental authorities, working with migrants and vulnerable groups, and involvement with international humanitarian organizations. Familiarity with the operational context of Uzbekistan and its migration issues is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish) is mandatory. For this position, fluency in Uzbek (oral and written) is required, along with a working knowledge of Russian (oral and written). The proficiency in these languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The position may involve a contract duration that is subject to funding confirmation. The selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months.
