Job Overview:
The Budget Analyst/Senior Budget Analyst position is situated within the Office of Budget and Planning (OBP) at the IMF, which is responsible for overseeing the Fund's administrative budget exceeding $1 billion. This role involves engaging with various departments to formulate budgets, negotiate spending envelopes, monitor budget execution, and make necessary mid-year adjustments. The selected candidate will contribute to the Fund-wide resource planning and budget formulation processes, assist in monitoring expenditure trends, and support departmental budget teams in their budget preparation and execution. The position requires a proactive approach to analyzing budget implications of internal policies and external changes, ensuring efficient resource management across the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Retrieving, organizing, and analyzing budget and cost data using various source systems and computer applications.
  • Preparing analyses, data visualizations, and presentations that compare input and output costs across departments and fiscal years to evaluate trends affecting budget needs and support efficient resource management. This includes drafting memos and sections for internal documents.
  • Supporting departmental budget teams in budget formulation for assigned departments and offices, conducting analyses to support budget decisions, estimating the impact of proposed policy changes, and monitoring budget execution while preparing periodic forecasts.
  • Contributing subject-matter expertise to training activities, supporting departmental counterparts on budget-related policies and processes, assisting in the development and maintenance of relevant information systems, and providing technical support on budget-related systems.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a University Degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field, or have a minimum of two years of experience at Grade A0
  • A sound knowledge of budget, administrative, and accounting rules and practices is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a matrix structure, along with strong analytical and data management skills, including proficiency in data visualization. Proficiency in computer applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Tableau is required, and familiarity with budget, planning, and HR systems is highly desirable. Strong writing and presentation skills are also necessary, and familiarity with AI-enabled tools for analysis and process improvement would be a plus.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a University Degree or equivalent in fields such as Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of budget management and financial analysis within the IMF's operational framework.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of two years of relevant experience at Grade A05 or equivalent. This experience should ideally encompass budget management, financial analysis, or related fields, providing the candidate with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of the IMF's budgetary processes and contribute effectively to the organization's financial planning and execution.

Languages:
