Job Overview:
The Advisor/Assistant Director position within the Office of Internal Audit (OIA) is a critical role that involves being part of the leadership team, working closely with the OIA Director and Assistant Director. The primary function of this role is to enhance OIA's supervisory capacity and support the execution of its approved Program of Work (PoW) and strategic initiatives. The Advisor will provide strategic and technical oversight, ensuring that the OIA's objectives are met efficiently and effectively. This position requires a strong focus on governance, risk management, and control processes, as well as collaboration with other oversight functions within the IMF. The Advisor will also play a key role in developing OIA's audit methodology and Quality Assurance and Improvement Program (QAIP), contributing to the overall effectiveness of the Fund's operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Advisor/Assistant Director will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing strategic and technical oversight in the execution of OIA’s approved Program of Work (PoW).
  • Offering managerial oversight to OIA staff during the planning, execution, and delivery of the PoW.
  • Coordinating communication and presentation of OIA’s results to Management, External Audit Committee (EAC), and the Executive Board.
  • Supporting the development of OIA’s PoW and engagement pipeline in collaboration with Fund departmental counterparts.
  • Fostering collaboration on risk and control issues across the IMF through technical expertise and relationship management.
  • Promoting internal initiatives related to capacity and budget management, process streamlining, AI/digitalization, knowledge sharing, and outreach.
  • Contributing to the advancement of OIA’s medium-term strategic priorities and objectives.
  • Supporting the development and reinforcement of OIA’s audit methodology and QAIP.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree or equivalent, along with a professional certification as an Accountant (CPA or international equivalent) or as an Auditor (CIA, CISA). Additionally, a minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant work experience, including supervisory and/or managerial experience, is required. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of nineteen (19) years of relevant professional experience, including supervisory and/or managerial experience, is acceptable. Candidates should also demonstrate strengths in people management, strategic leadership, drive for results, and effective communication skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree or equivalent in a relevant field, such as finance, accounting, or business administration. Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, or CISA are also essential for candidates to be considered for this role. A bachelor's degree may be acceptable if supplemented by extensive relevant experience.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant work experience for candidates with an advanced degree, or nineteen (19) years for those with a bachelor's degree. This experience should include supervisory and/or managerial roles, demonstrating the ability to lead teams and manage complex projects effectively. Candidates should have a proven track record in internal audit, risk management, or related fields.
