Job Overview:
The E T Consultant position within the World Bank's Prosperity Vertical is designed for individuals who are passionate about using their expertise in economics and data science to address critical development challenges. The role focuses on understanding the distributional impacts of macroeconomic policies and reforms, particularly in relation to poverty alleviation and economic growth. The consultant will be part of the Micro Modeling Lab, which plays a vital role in providing analytical support to regional teams. The consultant will be expected to apply advanced quantitative methods and programming skills to estimate the effects of macroeconomic shocks and policy changes on various populations, ensuring that the insights gained are effectively integrated into the World Bank's operational work. Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
  • Applying macro-micro simulation models to analyze the distributional impacts of macroeconomic shocks and policy reforms across different country contexts, ensuring adherence to methodological standards.
  • Collaborating with the Poverty team and other Global Solutions Groups to develop and standardize analytical tools and models that enhance just-in-time analytics.
  • Contributing to the refinement and improvement of microsimulation and visualization tools that support both analytical and operational efforts.
  • Participating in knowledge-sharing activities and collaborating with other World Bank teams to exchange insights and information on related issues.
  • Engaging in the documentation and sharing of coding protocols and data through platforms like GitHub and SharePoint to promote transparency and reproducibility in analytical work.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in Economics, Statistics, or a related field. A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience is required, particularly in applying quantitative methods and analytical tools to poverty and distributional analysis. Familiarity with both household and administrative data is desirable, as is experience with micro simulation methods for assessing distributional impacts. Strong data analysis and programming skills in STATA are essential, while proficiency in R and/or Python is considered advantageous. Experience with collaborative coding platforms such as Git is also desirable. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently on complex analytical tasks while effectively collaborating within multicultural and multidisciplinary teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are necessary, including the ability to present complex findings to diverse audiences.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Economics, Statistics, or a closely related discipline. This advanced education provides the foundational knowledge necessary for the analytical and quantitative tasks expected of the consultant.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience.
