Job Overview:
The Deputy Head of Mission (DHoM) plays a crucial role in supporting the Head of Mission (HoM) in overseeing the implementation of the Mission's mandate, plans, and policies. This position requires a strategic thinker who can provide guidance and support to senior management on mission priorities, ensuring that the Mission's programming adheres to its mandate and objectives. The DHoM will coordinate various departments and programs, ensuring effective communication and integration of programmatic and administrative activities. The role demands strong leadership and interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, international organizations, and civil society. The DHoM will also act as a Gender Focal Point within the Mission, promoting gender awareness and sensitivity in all activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Mission (HoM), the successful candidate will be tasked with the following duties: overseeing and managing the implementation of the Mission's mandate, plans, and policies; providing strategic advice to senior management on Mission priorities; coordinating and advising Heads of Departments to ensure adherence to the Mission's programming; reporting on the Mission's activities and progress; ensuring cooperation and integration of programmatic and administrative activities; liaising and negotiating with external interlocutors; providing guidance, support, performance evaluation, and mentoring to senior staff; supporting Mission-wide coordination and strategic guidance on local dialogue facilitation; acting as Gender Focal Point; deputizing for the HoM in their absence; and performing other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a second-level university degree in political sciences, public or law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">international law, international relations, or a related field. A first-level university degree in relevant fields combined with two years of additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the second-level degree. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of relevant, diversified, and progressively responsible professional experience, including at least 5 years at the management level relevant to the position.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a second-level university degree in political sciences, public or international law, international relations, or another related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in relevant fields combined with two years of additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the second-level university degree.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant, diversified, and progressively responsible professional experience. This experience should include at least 5 years at the management level relevant to the actual position, demonstrating the ability to lead organizations through complex transitions and manage change effectively.

Languages:
Professional fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the Mission area is desirable but not mandatory.

This position is an international secondment with a fixed-term contract.
