Job Overview:
The Operations Senior Assistant - Risk Education plays a crucial role in the coordination and implementation of Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) activities within UNMAS Syria. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about humanitarian work and have a keen interest in risk education related to explosive ordnance. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that EORE activities are coherent, standardized, and adhere to quality assurance protocols across all implementing partners. This includes working closely with the Syrian National Mine Action Centre (SNMAC), UN agencies, and various NGOs to ensure that all EORE initiatives meet the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and National Mine Action Standards (NMAS). The role also involves monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of EORE programs, developing capacity among local partners, and integrating EORE into broader humanitarian efforts. The successful candidate will be expected to measure the operational impact of EORE activities and assess behavioral outcomes to ensure that the programs are effective in reducing risks associated with explosive ordnance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serve as the lead focal point for EORE within UNMAS Syria, ensuring effective coordination among all stakeholders involved in EORE activities.
• Support the development and implementation of EORE strategies that align with IMAS and NMAS.
• Monitor and evaluate EORE activities to ensure they are meeting established objectives and standards.
• Provide technical support and guidance to implementing partners to enhance the quality of EORE programs.
• Facilitate training and capacity development initiatives for local partners and stakeholders involved in EORE.
• Collaborate with UNMAS and SNMAC to integrate EORE into broader humanitarian response efforts.
• Collect and analyze data related to EORE activities to assess their impact and effectiveness.
• Prepare reports and documentation related to EORE activities for internal and external stakeholders.
• Participate in meetings and forums related to mine action and risk education to represent UNMAS Syria. 1

Required Qualifications:

• Strong understanding of explosive ordnance risk education and mine action principles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work in a challenging and dynamic environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
• Proficiency in data collection and analysis to support monitoring and evaluation efforts.
• Familiarity with international humanitarian standards and practices related to mine action.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international relations, humanitarian studies, social sciences, or a related discipline is required. Additional certifications or training in mine action or risk education would be an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in humanitarian operations, risk education, or a related field is required. Experience working in conflict-affected areas or with international organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with mine action operations and standards will be considered an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and partners. Additional languages relevant to the region may also be beneficial.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as entry-level and is a full-time role with a contract duration of 12 months. The position is based in Damascus, Syria, and may involve travel to other regions as required. The contract type is ICA - LICA - Support - Regular, and the successful candidate will be expected to adhere to UNMAS policies and procedures throughout their employment.
