Job Overview: The Associate Director, Head of Bilaterals, Philanthropics and SSF plays a crucial role in managing and coordinating the Bank’s relationships with bilateral and multi-donor funds, as well as philanthropic foundations and private sector donors. This position is pivotal in ensuring that the EBRD can mobilize donor support effectively to fulfill its transition mandate and business plans. The Associate Director will set strategic directions and operational priorities for donor engagement, build and nurture productive relationships with a diverse community of donors, and implement strategies to mobilize donor support aligned with the Bank’s priorities. The role requires a deep understanding of the global development landscape and the ability to engage with various donor partners to enhance the Bank’s funding architecture and donor relations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Associate Director will be responsible for strategic donor relationship management, ensuring the establishment of active and productive relationships with the Bank’s community of donors. This includes growing and diversifying the donor community, contributing to fundraising efforts, and designing innovative funding proposals. The role also involves overseeing the management of bilateral and multi-donor funds, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, and organizing successful donor engagement events. The Associate Director will lead a team of fund managers, coordinate closely with internal teams, and ensure effective communication and reporting to stakeholders regarding donor-funded projects and portfolios. Additionally, the position requires contributing to wider departmental priorities and supporting the development of strategic documents and initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess excellent networking and partnership skills, with a proven ability to build effective relationships with multiple teams and external partners in a multicultural environment. Strong communication, marketing, and negotiation skills are essential, along with a strategic mindset and operational understanding to turn ideas into actionable projects. The ideal candidate should have excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, be a creative self-starter, and possess strong managerial skills to motivate and lead a team. Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory, and candidates should be computer literate, particularly in Microsoft Office applications.
Educational Background: A post-graduate (Masters) qualification in international development, international relations, economics, finance, or a related discipline is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of donor relations and development finance.
Experience: Extensive experience in building and managing donor relations is essential, including a deep track record in mobilizing donor funds for blended finance structures and designing compelling fundraising strategies. Candidates should have substantial experience in managing large donor-funded portfolios and a thorough understanding of the donor project management cycle. Experience in creating and leading teams, as well as managing and mentoring junior staff, is also required.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to the EBRD's countries of operation.
