Job Overview: The Research Analyst I/II position within the Development Strategy and Governance Unit at IFPRI is designed for individuals who are passionate about research and data analysis in the context of food policy and development. The successful candidate will engage in various research projects that involve the collection and analysis of household survey data. This role is critical as it contributes to understanding the socio-economic factors affecting food security and agricultural development in Myanmar. The position requires the candidate to be adaptable, as it may involve travel and extended stays in rural areas of Myanmar to conduct fieldwork. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical background and be comfortable working with both primary and secondary data, as well as collaborating with local partners and stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Research Analyst I/II include, but are not limited to:
Collection, cleaning, and analysis of both primary and secondary data to support research objectives.
Assisting in the handling of household survey data, which includes survey design, sampling, and questionnaire development.
Supporting the development of research instruments and analytical tools necessary for data analysis.
Conducting various forms of data analysis, including statistical and econometric analysis, to derive meaningful insights from the data.
Performing literature reviews and synthesizing findings to inform research projects.
Contributing to the writing of discussion papers, donor reports, and other scholarly publications that communicate research findings.
Coordinating field implementation of survey activities, which involves scoping, pretesting, and training survey enumerators.
Preparing large datasets for public access and ensuring proper data documentation.
Developing manuals or other learning materials as needed for research activities. 1
Helping to develop and coordinate technical workshops aimed at enhancing research capacity. 1
Interacting with collaborators and project partners to ensure effective communication and project execution. 1
Performing other duties as assigned by supervisors or project leads.
Required Qualifications: For the Research Analyst I position, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Development, or a related field, along with at least 2 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is acceptable. For the Research Analyst II position, candidates are required to have a Master’s degree in the same fields, along with 3 years of post-Masters experience. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in conducting literature reviews of academic publications and research reports, as well as coordinating field activities. Proficiency in managing large quantitative datasets, performing in-depth statistical analysis, and reporting results is essential. Candidates must also demonstrate fluency in both written and spoken English and the Myanmar language, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural team environment are crucial, as is the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines consistently.
Educational Background: Candidates applying for the Research Analyst I/II positions should have a strong educational background in relevant fields. For Research Analyst I, a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Development, or a related field is required, while a Master’s degree is preferred. For Research Analyst II, a Master’s degree in the same fields is mandatory.
