Job Overview: The IT Assistant position at UNESCO is crucial for providing ICT operational and technical support to ensure the effective delivery of corporate systems and services in Myanmar. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Head of Antenna Office in Yangon and will be responsible for supporting various education sector initiatives, including the System Capacity Grant (SCG) and the System Transformation Grant (STG). The role requires a proactive approach to maintaining UNESCO's ICT infrastructure and delivering reliable ICT services to support the effective implementation of these programs. The IT Assistant will be expected to provide first-line support to users, manage IT operations, maintain documentation, and assist in training and knowledge sharing among staff.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the IT Assistant include providing first-line desktop support to users for hardware, software, and network issues, resolving incidents and service requests, diagnosing and troubleshooting technical problems, and ensuring efficient delivery of corporate ICT services. The incumbent will perform scheduled service requests, maintain and track ICT assets, record and update incidents in the ticketing system, escalate technical issues as necessary, and support the National ICT Officer in promoting effective use of ICT systems. Additionally, the IT Assistant will provide training to end-users, develop user guides, support cybersecurity measures, assist with data backup and disaster recovery, and provide technical support for meetings and events.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the IT Assistant position include completed secondary education (High School Diploma or equivalent) and/or a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Candidates should possess strong knowledge of computer hardware, software, and peripheral devices, as well as experience in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining IT equipment and systems. Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications, endpoint management solutions, and IT security practices is essential. The ability to provide timely technical support and prepare documentation is also required.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed secondary education and preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the foundational knowledge necessary for the technical aspects of the role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least three years of progressively responsible experience in ICT support, IT operations, or a related field. This experience may be reduced to one year for candidates holding a first-level university degree or higher. Experience should preferably include end-user IT support, support for online/hybrid meetings, and familiarity with audio-visual systems and conferencing platforms.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English and Myanmar is mandatory for this position. Additionally, having basic knowledge of another language from the Asia-Pacific region or other official UN languages (such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) will be considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: The position is a Service Contract at level SC4, with a duration of 12 months, including an initial three-month probationary period. The contract may be renewed subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
