Job Overview:
The Driver position at the United Nations Development Coordination Office in Amman is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of the Regional Director and other authorized personnel. The role involves not only driving but also providing logistical support for various office operations, including the delivery of documents and goods, and assisting with protocol-related processes. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Safely driving vehicles for the transport of the UNDCO Regional Director and authorized personnel, as well as for the transport of general cargo goods.
  • Making deliveries of parcels, documents, and other items between the office and various institutions, including ministries, UN entities, and embassies.
  • Conducting minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers as requested.
  • Collecting goods from customs while adhering to regulations and formalities.
  • Meeting official personnel at the airport and providing logistical support for protocol-related processes.
  • Maintaining the assigned vehicle, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and tools, performing minor repairs, and arranging for major repairs as needed.
  • Logging fuel consumption and maintenance records.
  • Reporting any damage or loss of vehicle tools.
  • Ensuring compliance with rules and regulations in case of accidents. 1
  • Applying good judgment in the context of assignments and performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid national driver license and have a high school diploma or equivalent. A valid basic life support (BLS) certificate or equivalent is desirable. The position requires a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience as a driver with a safe driving record. Experience in driving various types of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles, is essential. Familiarity with the United Nations or other international organizations is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to the principles of the United Nations, particularly in relation to gender equality and diversity.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. This foundational education is necessary to ensure that candidates have the basic skills and knowledge required for the role, including understanding driving regulations and maintaining vehicle safety standards.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of progressive experience as a driver, with a proven record of safe driving. Candidates should have experience driving a variety of vehicles, which may include vans and other types of motorized transport. Experience working with the United Nations or similar international organizations is highly desirable, as it indicates familiarity with the operational standards and expectations of such environments.

Languages:
For this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is required. Candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in both languages according to the UN Language Framework. English and Arabic are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and candidates should be able to read, write, listen, and speak effectively in both languages. Knowledge of French is an asset but not mandatory.

This position is open for an initial period of one year (364 days) and may be subject to extension based on funding availability.
