Job Overview:
The Senior Safeguards Analyst will play a crucial role within the Department of Safeguards at the IAEA, which is responsible for ensuring that nuclear materials are not diverted from peaceful uses. This position involves developing and evaluating new safeguards concepts and approaches, supporting the Operations Divisions in the design and implementation of State-level approaches, and coordinating the development of additional tools to support safeguards implementation. The analyst will also serve as a project manager for Member State Support Programme tasks and prepare working documents for consideration within the Department and by international consultant and advisory groups. The role requires a combination of analytical skills, project management capabilities, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of nuclear safeguards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Safeguards Analyst will be responsible for identifying safeguards needs and managing a program of tasks or actions to address those needs. This includes developing, analyzing, and documenting new or enhanced technical safeguards concepts and approaches. The analyst will provide technical evaluations of State evaluation documents and State-level safeguards approaches to determine their acceptability in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance with IAEA policy and guidance. Additionally, the analyst will plan, organize, and supervise the work and deliverables of safeguards analysts in the Section, as assigned, and provide technical expertise to contribute effectively to safeguards inspections and other field activities. The incumbent may also be involved in areas that require exposure to radioactive materials, necessitating medical clearance and adherence to radiation safety regulations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree or an advanced university degree in nuclear or other engineering, physical science, mathematics, or a safeguards-related discipline. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in the same fields with two additional years of relevant work experience is acceptable. A minimum of 10 years of working experience in the nuclear field is required, including experience in systems analysis and developing and evaluating nuclear safeguards concepts and methods. Candidates should also have experience in organizing and conducting working groups and technical meetings, along with a good knowledge of the nuclear fuel cycle and nuclear materials, preferably obtained through the design, operation, or regulation of nuclear fuel cycle facilities. Thorough knowledge of IAEA safeguards concepts, practices, and technology is essential, as well as excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's Degree or an equivalent advanced university degree in nuclear or other engineering, physical science, mathematics, or a safeguards-related discipline. A Bachelor's Degree in the same fields is acceptable if accompanied by two years of additional relevant work experience. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of nuclear safeguards and the technical aspects of the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of working experience in the nuclear field, which should include experience in systems analysis and the development and evaluation of nuclear safeguards concepts and methods. Candidates should have a proven track record of organizing and conducting working groups and technical meetings, demonstrating their ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders in the nuclear sector.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English, with excellent oral and written command required. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered advantageous and may enhance a candidate's profile.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $101,540, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance.
