Job Overview:
The internship program at the IAEA is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical work experience that aligns with their academic studies and interests. Interns will have the opportunity to engage with the IAEA's work and the broader United Nations framework. The internship typically lasts between three months and one year, allowing interns to contribute to the IAEA's programs while gaining valuable insights into the field of nuclear sciences and applications. Interns will be involved in various activities, including the preparation of technical reports, planning and implementing scientific events, and supporting coordinated research projects. This role is particularly focused on the sub-programme 1.4.4, which deals with nuclear fusion research and development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be expected to support the preparation of technical reports for submission to the Publication Committee, which oversees Technical Meetings, Consultancy Meetings, and Workshops organized within the sub-programme 1.4.
  • They will also assist in managing the Fusion Portal, which disseminates information related to the IAEA's activities in fusion research and development. This includes creating and developing new content for the portal. Additionally, interns will help prepare and implement scientific and technical events focused on nuclear fusion research, contributing to the overall objectives of the IAEA's programs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Nuclear Physics, Plasma Physics, Nuclear Fusion, or related fields. A demonstrated interest in fusion research is essential, as well as experience in organizing scientific events. Knowledge of the technical aspects of fusion research and familiarity with major ongoing national and international activities in the field are also required. Interns should have skills in creating, managing, and developing small projects, along with the ability to comprehend technical content and develop technical documents.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be at least 20 years old and have completed a minimum of three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree. They may apply up to one year after completing a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. It is important that candidates have not previously participated in the IAEA's internship program.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in organizing scientific events and a solid understanding of fusion research. This experience can be gained through academic projects, internships, or relevant work experience in related fields.

Languages:
Good written and spoken English is essential for this position. Fluency in any other IAEA official language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
The internship is for a duration of 12 months, and candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
