Job Overview: The position involves supporting the Sustainable Mobility Unit in delivering critical products and services related to the Used EVs and Battery end-of-Life Programme. The candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, focusing on project management support. Key responsibilities include the submission of work plans and quarterly reports, event management for the launch of the Global Partnership on EV Battery Circularity, and the timely finalization of various reports related to used EVs and battery standards. The role also includes developing agendas for workshops, creating implementation plans for competitive grant processes, and ensuring the successful completion of policy development projects in multiple countries. The candidate will represent the Sustainable Mobility Unit in webinars and review policy outputs, contributing to the overall mission of promoting sustainable low-and zero-emissions transport in low- and middle-income countries.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Submit a comprehensive work plan and quarterly reports detailing advancements in project management support for the Used EVs and Battery end-of-life Programme.
Assist in updating the event management plan and meeting agenda for the virtual launch event of the Global Partnership on EV Battery Circularity, as well as for the first in-person event.
Ensure the timely finalization and publication of reports on Used EVs import standards, a Regulatory Toolbox for Used EVs and Battery end-of-Life, and an EV Battery Chemical Impact report, including reviewed versions.
Develop agendas and secure speakers for three workshops through regional platforms and two subregional meetings on battery end-of-Life.
Create an implementation plan, project tender outline, and selection criteria for four competitive grant processes for battery end-of-life projects across various regions.
Review and improve project proposals for GEF9 E-mobility projects in two countries.
Successfully finalize battery end-of-life policy development projects in Cameroon, Morocco, and Ethiopia, submitting reviewed versions as outputs.
Represent the Sustainable Mobility Unit in at least one relevant webinar.
Review at least two policy and project outputs from e-mobility projects that include battery end-of-life components.
Required Qualifications: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in environmental management, transport, engineering, international development, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A minimum of three years of work experience in project management is essential, along with proven analytical, presentation, and communication skills. Knowledge of sustainable mobility is required, while knowledge of Circularity or EV Battery end-of-Life is desirable. Experience in stakeholder management, data collection, and research is also beneficial.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in fields such as environmental management, transport, engineering, international development, or a related discipline. In cases where candidates hold a first-level university degree, they must also have two additional years of qualifying experience to be considered equivalent to the advanced degree requirement.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience in project management. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in managing projects effectively, showcasing their ability to coordinate activities, meet deadlines, and deliver results in a timely manner. Experience in analytical tasks, stakeholder engagement, and communication is also crucial for success in this role.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in French is also beneficial, as it is another working language of the UN, and knowledge of additional languages may enhance a candidate's profile.
