Job Overview:
The position of Assistant.e à la Technologie de l'Information (SCOPE) is crucial for ensuring the effective delivery of IT services within the organization. The role involves providing high-quality technical support and maintenance of systems and data across various domains, contributing to the overall efficiency of IT services. The incumbent will be responsible for interpreting standard guidelines and practices to implement various procedures and activities effectively. This position requires collaboration with colleagues at different levels and may involve assigning tasks to other staff members. The Assistant will play a key role in ensuring that the IT infrastructure is reliable and that staff members have the necessary tools and support to perform their duties effectively. The role also includes participating in data working group meetings with country offices and other humanitarian partners, ensuring proper follow-up on tasks and projects, and maintaining technology in accordance with data security controls.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality technical support and maintenance of systems and data across a wide range of areas to contribute to the effective delivery of IT services.
  • Participate in and facilitate data working group meetings with country offices and sister agencies as necessary.
  • Ensure adequate follow-up on tasks, issues, and projects by using or creating tools for proper information and coordination within the team under supervision.
  • Conduct maintenance tasks such as monitoring, diagnosing, and optimizing systems to ensure they function correctly and are user-friendly.
  • Maintain technologies in accordance with data security controls, including performing routine repair, configuration, and storage tasks to ensure that IT equipment is available for WFP staff.
  • Prepare files and systems, such as website content and directories, for inventory and archiving to ensure information is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Assign tasks to other colleagues, ensuring work is completed according to agreed standards and deadlines to contribute to effective service delivery.
  • Respond to various inquiries regarding technologies and systems to assist WFP staff in providing expected services.
  • Train end-users on technologies and systems with support from senior colleagues to ensure effective usage. 1
  • Perform routine installations of network hardware and software, including testing and documenting issues to contribute to the proper functioning of technologies. 1
  • Manage information files, including updating web pages and statistical databases, to ensure information is current and well-structured. 1
  • Install and operate telecommunications systems and equipment, ensuring maintenance to optimize services according to established operating procedures. 1
  • Assist in developing standard documents, such as training materials and web content on behalf of senior officials, to ensure staff have access to necessary information about IT services and products. 1
  • Propose improvements to methods and processes to contribute to the continuous enhancement of IT services. 1
  • Apply defined emergency response processes and procedures as necessary to assist in addressing emergency food assistance needs. 1
  • Report periodically to the supervisor as indicated, including during missions. 1
  • Produce written reports for all missions, whether virtual or physical, within set deadlines. 1
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least 5 years of experience in the field of information technology, with a proven track record of resolving complex technical problems. Experience collaborating with unit heads to define functional area needs is essential. Candidates should also have experience applying rules to resolve or escalate user service issues effectively. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are critical for success in this role.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary education. A post-secondary certificate in a relevant functional area is desirable, providing candidates with a foundational understanding of the technical aspects of the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in information technology, demonstrating a strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. Experience in collaborating with unit leaders to identify and address functional needs is also required, along with a history of applying established procedures to manage user service challenges effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to interact with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a Service Contract at the SC 5 grade level, with a duty station in N'Djamena, Chad. The contract duration is for 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs and performance.
