Job Overview: The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Senior Director of Technology for Development (T4D) is a pivotal role within Mercy Corps, responsible for leading the T4D team and serving as a senior program-facing technology leader. This position requires close collaboration with both the Programs and Information Technology (IT) departments, ensuring that proposed technology applications are well-supported and integrated with Mercy Corps' enterprise technology architecture. The Sr. Director will drive the strategic vision for the use of innovative digital technology and data solutions to enhance the performance and impact of Mercy Corps' work. This includes developing annual or multi-annual strategies for technology uptake and scale, ensuring collaboration across departments, and embedding technology into program models and organization-wide learning agendas. The role also involves building external partnerships, particularly with private sector technology partners, to advance technological improvements and program impact aims.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Director of T4D will have a wide range of responsibilities, including: driving Mercy Corps' influence and thought leadership regarding innovative digital technology; developing strategies for technology uptake; ensuring collaboration across departments; managing T4D-related support requests; overseeing the development of program-facing technology applications; ensuring ethical use of technology and data; managing the T4D team and financial resources; and integrating safeguarding principles into T4D's work. The Sr. Director will also be responsible for building external partnerships, advancing equitable digital transformation, and leading initiatives that strengthen local technology ecosystems. Additionally, the role includes overseeing the establishment of a T4D community of practice and guiding the development of resources to support responsible digital technology use.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Senior Director of T4D position should possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a relevant field. They should have extensive experience as a senior technology leader in an international organization, with a proven track record of leading diverse technology teams and managing multi-million-dollar performance-dependent agreements. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in building powerful external partnerships, fundraising, and leading organizational change initiatives, particularly in digital technology and data systems transformations. Familiarity with major institutional donors and their technology funding priorities is also preferred.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of technology applications in humanitarian and development contexts.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 12 years of experience in technology and related business, with increasing levels of responsibility. Candidates should have experience as a senior technology leader at an international organization, leading diverse technology teams with global delivery models. Experience in international NGO or non-profit settings is preferred, along with a demonstrated track record of leading organizational change initiatives, particularly in digital technology and data systems transformations.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, while working proficiency in French, Spanish, or Arabic is preferred. This multilingual capability is important for effective communication in diverse cultural and operational contexts.
