Job Overview:
The Senior Officer, Mini-Grids & Distributed Energy Systems position is a pivotal role within SEforALL's Universal Energy team. This short-term assignment is designed to support the advancement of key deliverables that are essential for scaling up the mini-grid sector across Sub-Saharan Africa. The officer will be responsible for producing a state of the market report, which will provide insights into the current landscape of mini-grids and distributed energy systems. Additionally, the role involves preparing information briefings that will inform stakeholders about the progress and challenges in the sector. Reporting and fundraising activities will also be a significant part of the job, as the officer will need to communicate the impact of mini-grids and advocate for increased investment and support. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration with various partners to ensure that the objectives of the Universal Energy team are met effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Officer include but are not limited to:

• Conducting comprehensive research and analysis to produce a state of the market report on mini-grids and distributed energy systems.
• Developing and delivering information briefings to stakeholders, ensuring that they are well-informed about the current trends and developments in the mini-grid sector.
• Collaborating with team members and external partners to gather data and insights necessary for reporting and fundraising efforts.
• Assisting in the preparation of funding proposals and reports to secure financial support for mini-grid initiatives.
• Engaging with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector actors, to promote the benefits of mini-grids and distributed energy systems.
• Monitoring and evaluating the progress of mini-grid projects and providing recommendations for improvement.
• Contributing to the development of strategies that enhance the scalability and sustainability of mini-grid solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Senior Officer position must possess a strong background in energy systems, particularly in mini-grids and distributed energy technologies. A proven track record of working in energy access or related fields is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and present findings clearly. Strong communication skills are required to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders. Experience in project management and fundraising is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the challenges and opportunities in the Sub-Saharan African energy landscape.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as energy management, engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline is required. A master's degree in a similar field is preferred and may be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of energy policies, technologies, and market dynamics, particularly in the context of developing countries.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in the energy sector, with a focus on mini-grids or distributed energy systems. Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa or with organizations that promote energy access is highly advantageous. Candidates should also have a demonstrated ability to manage projects and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly French or Portuguese, is considered a valuable asset, given the diverse linguistic landscape of Sub-Saharan Africa.
