Job Overview: The Mechanical Engineer position is a mid-level role that requires a strong technical background in mechanical engineering. The engineer will work under the supervision of the Peer Review Stream Lead based in Nairobi, Kenya. The primary responsibilities include providing technical expertise for analysis and design tasks, preparing cost estimates for mechanical works, conducting assessments, monitoring site works, and undertaking commissioning activities. The engineer will also be responsible for producing high-quality documentation related to the projects. This role demands a commitment to delivering projects on time and ensuring that all outputs meet the required quality standards. The projects may be located in various international settings, which requires flexibility and adaptability from the engineer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical expertise in mechanical engineering for various projects.
Conduct analysis and design tasks as assigned by the Peer Review Stream Lead.
Prepare accurate cost estimates for mechanical works.
Conduct assessments and monitor site works to ensure compliance with project specifications.
Undertake commissioning of mechanical systems and equipment.
Produce high-quality documentation, including reports and technical specifications.
Ensure timely delivery of all project outputs while maintaining high-quality standards.
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and project stakeholders to achieve project goals.
Participate in project meetings and provide updates on progress and challenges. 1
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in mechanical engineering.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong understanding of engineering principles and practices.
Proficiency in engineering design software and tools.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is required. A master's degree or additional certifications in mechanical engineering or project management is preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on project delivery and technical expertise. Experience in international projects is an advantage, as it demonstrates the ability to work in diverse environments and adapt to different project requirements.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and for project documentation. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset, particularly if the projects are located in regions where those languages are spoken.
Additional Notes: The position is a full-time role with a contract duration of one year, subject to performance and availability of funds.
