Job Overview: The Graphic Designer position within the Publications & Conference Management Section (PCMS) of UNECA involves a range of responsibilities centered around the design and production of visual materials for various UN-sponsored activities. The role requires collaboration with clients to understand their design needs and objectives, and the ability to independently manage design projects from conception to completion. The designer will create infographics and data visualizations that effectively communicate complex information, ensuring that all designs are prepared in electronic format for final review and printing. The position also involves coordinating with various stakeholders throughout the project production process, assisting with data analysis, and updating informational materials such as web pages and brochures. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Graphic Designer include:
Participating in initial meetings with clients to discuss design projects, including content, communication objectives, media options, technical specifications, costs, and deadlines.
Independently undertaking design assignments for high-priority UN-sponsored activities, conceptualizing and developing design proposals for client review.
Designing and producing infographics and data visualizations to communicate complex information clearly and engagingly.
Preparing all approved designs in electronic format for final review and printing, and reviewing color and print proofs as necessary.
Providing guidance and support throughout the project production process, coordinating with clients and relevant parties to ensure projects are on schedule.
Assisting with data collection and analysis, preparing presentations and reports for information sharing and decision-making.
Updating visual materials such as web pages and brochures as needed.
Performing other related work as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with a diploma in graphic design or a related field from a recognized college being desirable. A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in publications production, including desktop publishing, graphic design, and layout, is required. This experience requirement is reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Proficiency in professional graphic design and publishing software, particularly Adobe Creative Cloud, is essential. Experience in data analytics or related areas is also desirable, showcasing a well-rounded skill set in both design and data interpretation.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent. A diploma in graphic design or a related field from a recognized college is considered desirable, indicating that candidates should have formal training in design principles and practices to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressive experience in publications production, graphic design, and layout. Languages: English is the mandatory working language for this position, with a required proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
